Trieste's tribute to the 200 years of Luxardo Spa through an exhibition curated by IRCI, the Regional Institute of Istrian, Fiumano Dalmata Culture, in the spaces of the Civic Museum in Via Torino.                               

To celebrate the bicentenary of the historic company founded in Zara in 1821 by Girolamo Luxardo, an exciting and curious proposal; visitors will be able to experience a real journey into the history of Dalmatian rosolio and maraschini and good Julian-Dalmatian drinking, thanks to an accurate and in-depth mapping of a tradition of undisputed excellence.  

" We are grateful to IRCI and the city of Trieste, which has shared so much with our family history ," comments Franco Luxardo, senior partner of Luxardo Spa , " for the tribute they have chosen to pay us, which we deeply appreciate. This is a preview of what will become of the Luxardo Museum, which we plan to open in 2022 at the company's headquarters in Torreglia (Padua)."

The exhibition will lead the public to learn about the evolution of one of the longest-running Italian examples of family business, from its origins to the present day, following a time span of 200 years.

 

It will therefore be possible to admire a remarkable gallery of historical documents and deeds, old honorifics awarded to employees over the years, vases and glass made by the famous Murano glass masters, ancient ampoules, the famous personalized ceramic bottles from Faenza from the 30s, now highly sought-after by collectors, postcards and advertisements made in thematic guides from 1880 to the 40s, and in various magazines from the 900s to the 20s, period posters and much more.

"Preserving the social memory of a region and its people necessarily involves remembering the activities that take place there," explains Franco Degrassi, President of IRCI , "some of which are so distinctive that they become symbols. Thus, it is almost impossible to talk about Zara, and perhaps the whole of Dalmatia, without Luxardo and its Maraschino. Even today, after 200 years, the company continues to represent this liqueur worldwide. IRCI felt it was necessary to commemorate such a momentous occasion, and it felt a moral and cultural obligation to the public to commemorate this bicentenary with an exhibition that preserves its memory. "

Regional Institute for Istrian-Fiumano-Dalmatian Culture   

The primary role of IRCI, the Regional Institute for Istrian-Fiumano-Dalmatian Culture of Trieste consists in the recovery, conservation, study and development of every cultural trait of the ISTRIANS, FIUMANS and DALMATIAN people. A great people who, over the centuries, have shown themselves to be winners in every field: from science, to art, to thought, to work, defeated only by the events of history that have uprooted their roots and dispersed their fruits with a massive exodus after the end of the Second World War. But those dispersed fruits have created seeds and these have sprouted in every part of the world. 

Since 1991, IRCI has organized numerous activities such as historical and literary conferences on famous people and particularly significant events; exhibitions on various themes concerning Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia; one hundred and fifty titles on Julian-Dalmatian themes, with particular attention to the exodus and the consequent events, but also on the culture and science of the lost lands, written by scholars, researchers and enthusiasts.
