Maria Pasquinelli passed away yesterday afternoon in Bergamo. She had turned one hundred in March. A schoolteacher, she tied her life to a tragic episode in Julian-Dalmatian history. On February 10, 1947, she shot General de Winton, head of the Pola garrison, to protest the decision of the great powers to cede Istria to Tito's Yugoslavia.
