The 44th Sergio Amidei International Award will shine a spotlight on Gorizia from 17 to 23 July, proposing itself as one of the key events of Go!2025 Nova Gorica-Gorizia European Capital of Culture.

Born in the name of the father of Neorealism, the Amidei “confirms the centrality of writing for cinema and renews the dialogue between border cultures”, explain the organizers, members of the cultural association of the same name.

Seven films are in the running for best screenplay, selected by a jury chaired by Marco Risi: among them El Paraíso by Enrico Maria Artale, Conclave by Peter Straughan and Napoli – New York by Gabriele Salvatores.

The Author's Work Award will be given to Ferzan Ozpetek on July 17th and to Céline Sciamma on the 19th, both of whom will be the protagonists of meetings with the public at the Kinemax.

Recognition also for the magazine FilmTv, which will receive the Award for Cinematographic Culture on July 20.

Among the collateral initiatives are the Neuropathies section, dedicated to the traumas of the European body, and the serial focus on M – The son of the century; via Rastello, in the city center, will become Via della Creatività, an open-air laboratory on the professions of cinema.

On the sidelines of the Award, Cinemazero signs AttraversaMenti cinematografici – Border cinema in Fvg, eight itinerant stages between Cormons, Monfalcone, Nova Gorica and Gorizia.

In the Coronini Cronberg Park on July 25th, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? by Stanley Kramer will be screened, and on July 26th, Est – Dittatura last minute by Antonio Pisu, with the producer Maurizio Paganelli.
