To my Alpine Father: A Diary Between War and Irredentism

Today is the first National Day of Memory and Sacrifice of the Alpini, established by Law 44/2022: to celebrate it we point out “To my Alpine father. The diary of my father in the great war, who wanted to leave “volunteer” to follow the ideal of irredentism” by Gaetano Paolo Agnini.

Little-known pages of the Great War, on the thread of the memory of known and unknown heroes. After a hundred years from the conflict that inflamed Europe and involved and shocked the world, new aspects, sometimes disturbing and unpublished, are drawn from the Italian events.

“To my Alpine Father” is a true story based on original documents that brings to light facts and human anguish from the retreat in the mountains of Alta Carnia. Through the capture and transport of prisoners to the camps, up to the “Alpine conferences”, the living met, in silence and without fanfare, to remember and honor the dead.
