Abdon Pamich is the only Italian ever to win two Olympic medals in the 50-kilometer walk , the most stamina-intensive event of the Games. Already a world record holder, he won gold in Tokyo on October 18, 1964.

But Abdon Pamich, now 92, is not just a great athlete: his life is marked by dramatic events. At the end of the Second World War, Marshal Tito's Yugoslavia occupies Fiume, the Italian city where he lives , and at the age of 14 he has to flee on foot during the night with his brother.
