A hundred years ago in Split, the captain of a ship and his engineer were killed. Later Gabriele d'Annunzio wanted the bow of the Royal Ship Puglia in the garden of the Vittoriale to remember this event. No one, 100 years later, has remembered it, however, or at least almost no one, except me and the constitutionalist prof. Giuseppe de Vergottini who, together with a few others, went to lay a wreath on the bust of commander Gulli at the Pincio in Rome. Despite various requests, not even the Navy deemed it appropriate to pay homage to the two fallen. Who were also at the basis of everything that happened later in Fiume, in Pisino and especially in Trieste where a few days ago the two presidents, Italian and Slovenian, were present to remember those tragic events. To justify or even minimize what happened in Trieste a hundred years ago would sincerely be outside of history. However, being outside the history of a country also means forgetting its own dead and its own communities erased as happened to the Italians of Dalmatia, starting with the murder of Tommaso Gulli and Aldo Rossi.
