COMPETITION NOTICE Mailing List Histria 2022
SECTION A – 'MAILING LIST HISTRIA' COMPETITION
Students of Italian schools and young people attending Italian communities based in Croatia and Slovenia who know the Italian language or the local dialect of Venetian and Istrian origin are invited to participate in this section of the competition.
The Competition is divided into two categories:
a) Elementary schools
b) Secondary schools
For the “Elementary Schools” category , the competition is divided into two subcategories of competitors:
1) individual works
2) group work
For “Elementary Schools” the three most significant works in each subcategory will be awarded.
1st place: 200 Euros, 2nd place: 150 Euros, 3rd place: 100 Euros
For the “Secondary Schools” category, the three most significant works will be awarded.
1st place: 200 Euros, 2nd place: 150 Euros, 3rd place: 100 Euros
The “Mailing List HISTRIA 2022” Competition provides the possibility of carrying out, at your choice, only one of the proposed topics for each subcategory relating to the school level to which you belong:
INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP WORK FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS:
– Our ancestors count.
– Exodus. Try to tell what it was like for those who “remained” and for those who became exiles from their own land.
– Despite everything, life goes on and every now and then we manage to tell each other a story.
– In these last two years everything has been done remotely: school, work, sports, friendships and even relationships with relatives who lived nearby… how did our families, divided all over the world, communicate once? If you have direct experience, try interviewing grandparents, relatives, acquaintances, even around the world, collecting their testimony, or try to imagine…
– Red the earth, green the pines and white the stones: my land offers joy and nourishment to the body and spirit of those who observe it with curiosity and love.
– Class life… not in class.
INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP WORK FOR HIGH SCHOOLS:
– Our ancestors count.
– The finds, the antiquities, the paintings that testify to the continuous contacts between your city and those on the western shore of the Adriatic.
– Exodus. Try to tell what it was like for those who “remained” and for those who became exiles from their own land.
– Certain corners and certain views of the place where you live have a particular charm, a collected beauty that speaks to our imagination and our feelings with poetry and melancholy.
– “Losing the past means losing the future,” says Wang Shu, a prestigious Chinese architect who uses recycled materials to build modern buildings. The same concept can and must be applied to the recovery of memory, especially that of the long-forgotten Eastern Border.
– Istria, Kvarner, Dalmatia, lands softened by an inimitable sea, lashed by relentless winds. How much do you think the morphological and climatic component of the territory has influenced their history and the temperament of the inhabitants?
The texts must be written in Italian or in one of the Romance dialects spoken in Croatia and Slovenia.
A project carried out by at least 4 (four) people is considered a group work.
Themes can be sent:
– personally from the authors
– through the schools they belong to
– through the local Italian Communities
The texts (not films or videos), with the data of the Author(s) (personal details, address, class, school and name of the reference teacher), identified by a “MOTTO” or a “PSEUDONYM” must be sent to the Secretariat of the Mailing List “HISTRIA” by email to both of the following addresses:
mariarita96@outlook.com and cnapichwegg@libero.it
or you can send everything by registered mail to:
Competition Secretariat Mailing List HISTRIA 2022
c/o Maria Rita COSLIANI at BAR ALL'ALPINO – Piazzale Medaglie d'Oro, 12 – 34170 GORIZIA - Italy
by inserting the essay into the envelope with the data of the Author(s) (personal details, contact details, email address, class, school and name of the reference teacher) identified by a MOTTO or PSEUDONYM.
All works, whether sent by email or registered mail, will be accepted only if SENT by March 31, 2022. In the case of submission by registered mail, the postmark date will be considered valid.
Please note that each individual competitor can only participate with one work per subcategory. In the event of homonymy of the name or motto, the organizers will give the works a different numbering based on the date of arrival.
The Secretariat of the HISTRIA Mailing List will send the Evaluation Commission exclusively the texts identified by the corresponding “MOTTO OR PSEUDONYM” and will communicate the Competitors' data to the Commission itself only at the end of the evaluation.
All texts submitted to the competition will be published on the "HISTRIA" website http://www.mlhistria.it and on the related website "ADRIATICO CHE UNISCE" http://www.adriaticounisce.it, dedicated to the literary competition organized by MLHistria. By participating, authors authorize the free publication of their works both in the published book and on the website.
On the occasion of the XXII Meeting of the “HISTRIA” Mailing List , which will take place in Momiano in spring/summer 2022, the official awards will be given for each individual category (primary schools and secondary schools) and the related subcategories.
All winners will receive a diploma, while teachers who participated in the competition will receive a certificate of merit. The Commission will exclude from its consideration any texts that do not align with the spirit of the Manifesto of the ML "HISTRIA" attached to this Competition Notice, as well as any that are clearly not original.
The cash prize may be collected only by the interested party or by others provided that they have a written and signed proxy from the winner and a photocopy of an identity document of the winner. In all other cases, the prize will be forfeited.
The authors of the essays residing in Dalmatia and Montenegro are an exception to this rule. Their prizes will be collected by a qualified representative of the Association of Italian Dalmatians in the World and of the Mailing List Histria present at the award ceremony.

PROGRAMMATIC MANIFESTO MAILING LIST HISTRIA
ML Histria, created to preserve and protect the cultural identity of Istria, Rijeka, Kvarner and Dalmatia of Italian character, based on the multi-ethnic spirit of our times and free from any political affiliation, intends to promote collaborative relationships with ALL the institutes and ALL the organizations that operate in the current region of Istria, Rijeka, Kvarner and Dalmatia, a territory currently divided between the National States of Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro, in order to study, preserve and develop the specific cultural identity of the above-mentioned regional territories.
ML Histria, aware of the unavoidable reality that currently sees the prevalence of the Slovenian and Croatian component in the region compared to other historical components, such as the Italian one, has the aim of making known and promoting this now minority component and consequently valorizing the identity of the National Community of Italians in Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro, trying to sensitize especially the Italian citizens and media. To this end, it urges everyone's collaboration to overcome any anachronistic historical opposition between men and the European States of Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro in order to reconstruct together the history, especially the future, of the region in full respect of all the cultures historically present in it.
The ML Histria therefore recognizes the necessary complementarity of these ethnic groups that a centuries-old educational path, distilled in those lands, has seen united in close relationships of interdependence giving life to a "cultural specificity" that, by its very nature, cannot renounce any of these components without losing a significant part of its original historical and cultural identity.
