On May 17, 2026, at the Monastery of San Nicolò on the Lido of Venice at the headquarters of the Global Campus of Human Rights, on the occasion of the Festa della Sensa 2026 and the “TI CON NU – NU CON TI” ceremony at the Dalmatian Pillars, the “Sensa Honorary Committee at the Dalmatian Pillars for Europe on the two Adriatic shores” was established.

The Committee was founded as a free, non-profit, non-partisan, and independent civic, cultural, and moral association with the objectives of cultural promotion, historical memory, European dialogue, civic education, and the valorization of the cultural heritage of both shores of the Adriatic.

The Committee draws inspiration from:

• from the thousand-year-old Venetian historical tradition of the Festa della Sensa;
• from the historical memory of the last feat of arms of the Serenissima guarded by the Dalmatian Pillars inaugurated at the Lido of Venice on 8 May 2005;
• from the Day of Remembrance on February 10, established by Law 30 March 2004, n. 92;
• from the Faro Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society approved by the Council of Europe on 27 October 2025 and subsequently ratified on 20 September 2007 by Montenegro, on 30 October 2007 by Croatia, on 17 September 2008 by Slovenia, on 23 September 2020 by Italy.
• from the Treaty between the Republics of Croatia and Italy signed in Zagreb on 5 November 1996 for the Rights of Minorities;
• from the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage which was adopted by UNESCO in Paris on 17 October 2003;
• from the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union which entered into force on 1 December 2009;
• from the UN 2023 Agenda for Sustainable Development, whose action programme was signed by 193 UN member countries in New York on 25 September 2015;
• from the Northeast Adriatic Europe Agreement signed at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice on 18 October 2023.

The Committee aims to:

• organize the “TI CON NU – NU CON TI” ceremony every year at the Piloni Dalmati on the occasion of the Festa della Sensa;
• promote cultural, educational, commemorative, informative, and relational initiatives related to the shared history of the European Adriatic communities, fostering a balanced understanding of historical memory and dialogue between the peoples of both shores;
• to enhance the historical, symbolic, civic, and European significance of the Feast of the Ascension as a moment of encounter between cultures, maritime communities, and Adriatic territories;
• to foster relations of dialogue, friendship, cooperation, and cultural diplomacy between Venice, Istria, Kvarner, and Dalmatia, particularly with the Italian communities bordering the eastern shore of the Adriatic, encouraging joint projects in the name of peace, mutual respect, freedom, solidarity, and sustainable development;
• support activities aimed at new generations on the themes of memory, European citizenship, human rights, the protection of linguistic minorities, the culture of peace, and the valorization of tangible and intangible cultural heritage;
• engage public bodies, schools, universities, associations, cultural organizations, religious and civil institutions in Italy and Europe in collaboration, study, education, and cultural promotion;
• promote the active participation of citizens, associations, and local communities in the care, protection, and enhancement of the Adriatic's cultural heritage and historical memory;
• support research, study, dissemination, editorial and digital communication activities dedicated to the historical, cultural and contemporary relations between Venice, Istria, Kvarner, Dalmatia and the Adriatic communities;
• promote the care, protection and enhancement of the Dalmatian Pillars of the Venice Lido as a place of identity of Venetian Adriatic memory and a symbol of encounter, reconciliation and dialogue between the two shores of the Adriatic Sea;
• contribute to the growth of the Festa della Sensa as a European occasion dedicated to dialogue between cultures, heritages, communities, and territories united by the Adriatic Sea.

The Committee, thanks to the availability shown by Global Campus of Human Rights, has identified the Monastery of San Nicolò al Lido di Venezia at Riviera San Nicolò 26, 30126 Lido di Venezia (Italy) as the location.
