From Piran to Venice on the "salt route"
In Casa Tartini the meeting with the promoter, Daniele Scarpa, was renewed
Piran and Venice, united over the centuries also for the important trade of white gold, are once again protagonists this year with the "Antica rotta del sale". The initiative was promoted in 2009 by the Olympic champion Daniele Scarpa in close collaboration with the Community of Italians "Giuseppe Tartini" and the cultural coordinator Fulvia Zudič. Since then, every year in July the traditional canoe crossing from Piran to Venice takes place. Scarpa, a sports personality who is also very active in social matters and thanks to a 56-foot sailing vessel, allows the promotion of activities aimed at young people with disabilities and the creation of national and international events related to social, cultural and environmental issues. Every year he brings to Piran sports personalities of a certain importance, today true legends. This year, the Ocean Legends Team group was joined by eighty-year-old athlete Paolo Donaggio, long-distance swimming record holder, Paolo Luschi, Scarpa's canoe partner in the K2-2 1000-meter discipline at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, Franco Properzi, former Italian rugby player, and Sandra Truccolo, two-time Paralympic world champion in archery, one-time European champion, two-time gold medalist at the Atlanta and Sydney Paralympic Games, silver in Atlanta 1996 and silver in Athens 2004. Together with two representatives of the Forza Rosa International Breast Cancer Survivor Outrigger Va'a Paddlers team, they left Trieste over the weekend and landed at the Piran pier. Welcomed by the Piran club, they gathered at Casa Tartini where, together with Daniela Ipsa, they talked about their initiatives and projects. For the second year in a row, three activists from the Europa Donna Association of the Primorska section, represented by spokesperson Daniela Božič, also participated in the meeting.
