The 2021 Remembrance Award is dedicated to Norma Cossetto

La Commission designated by the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia, after careful evaluation, on the basis of the sensitivity offered by the promoting Association, has expressed itself as follows for the 2021 edition of the Premio del Ricordo, dedicated to Norma Cossetto.  

 

2021 Remembrance Award to the Veneto Region

Heir of that Most Serene Republic of Venice which, by consolidating relations between the two shores of the Adriatic, not only in the name of trade and commerce, but also of artistic and cultural circulation, contributed to maintaining the Italian-speaking populations of the eastern Adriatic within the Italian linguistic and identity ecumene. Leader of the insurrections in 1848, when Istrian and Dalmatian volunteers flocked to the reborn Marcian flag enriched with the Tricolour, as well as the battlefield of the subsequent wars of the Risorgimento which would finally lead to the annexation of the unredeemed lands after the Great War. Landing point after the Second World War for the motor vessel Toscana dedicated to exodus of almost all of the population of Pola and since then a particularly hospitable Region towards the thousands of Istrians, Fiume and Dalmatians welcomed in the Refugee Collection Centres and in the Julian-Dalmatian Villages. Anticipatory, thanks to the so-called Beggiato Law of 1994 dedicated to the "Interventions for the recovery, conservation and enhancement of the cultural heritage dating back to the Serenissima Republic of Venice in Istria and Dalmatia”, of the spirit of the Day of Remembrance in mending relations and with a view to safeguarding the architectural heritage of Venetian style after the implosion of Yugoslavia. The Veneto Region is therefore awarded the Remembrance Award 2021. 

 

2021 Remembrance Award to Maurizio Federici and Silvano Olmi

For having contributed to making Norma Cossetto a symbol for all Italians, managing to transform a day of commemoration and sadness for a few into a heartfelt, experienced, shared national celebration. After having conceived and implemented the initiative “A rose for Norma”, in the space of just two years they managed to inspire and sensitize dozens of City Councils to inaugurate parks, streets, monuments in memory of the Istrian martyr and, with her, that of all Italians of the lost lands. For the tireless commitment and the indisputable love of country the Remembrance Award 2021 is jointly awarded to Maurizio Federici and Silvano Olmi.

 

2021 Remembrance Award to the Bracco Foundation

For financial support for the construction of the monument in Milan to the MARTYRS OF THE FOIBE "In everlasting memory of the martyrs of the foibe, of those disappeared without return and of the 350.000 exiles from Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia” inaugurated on October 21, 2020 in Piazza della Repubblica in Milan in the significant presence of the Mayors of Trieste, Gorizia and Milan. The Bracco Foundation, born from the heritage of values ​​matured in over 90 years of history of the Family and the Bracco Group successfully carried forward in creating and spreading expressions of culture, art and science, enthusiastically supported the construction of the monument designed by the artist Piero Tarticchio, demonstrating a very strong bond with the family's roots in Istria in Neresine on the island of Lussino, where the Cavaliere del Lavoro, Fulvio Bracco, was born in 1909. To that land, which forged the character of the founders, with strength, enthusiasm and tenacity and great entrepreneurial ability, the Bracco Foundation has donated over the years a moral and economic contribution of the highest profile and depth in a continuous and flourishing closeness to the world of Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian exiles. The Bracco Foundation is awarded the 2021 Premio del Ricordo, significantly delivered to Diana Bracco, President and CEO of BraccoSpa, as well as Cavaliere del Lavoro and Cavaliere di Gran Croce of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
