The first construction site to be opened in the large-scale renovation plan destined to change the face of Gorizia and Nova Gorica will be Piazza della Transalpina, a symbolic place for the two cities.
The candidature of the two cities for capital of culture 2025 also included a large redevelopment of an area straddling the border to represent a sort of entrance portal to the City of Culture, and, after many bureaucratic problems, the work can finally begin.

The project, worth around 10 million, aims to create a new unitary, connected and integrated “district”, which will be the heart of events in 2025, but will also remain available to the two cities for follow-up.

Four areas of intervention are planned: Piazzale della Transalpina with the “Tridente”, the green area towards the San Gabriele pass, EPIC and Super 8. In total, the works will last 15 months.

In Piazza della Transalpina and the surrounding streets there will be work to harmonize the pedestrian and vehicular streets, with a paving with a design consistent with the other spaces, and there will be interventions on public lighting, and the placement of water games and new elements of street furniture.

Also planned is the upgrading and renovation of the Nova Gorica railway station, with cycle paths connected through a new underpass, and the elimination of unused tracks. There will also be the redevelopment of the cross-border green area between the border and the Slovenian Railways facilities. Also planned is the construction of sports facilities, playgrounds, and open spaces and green areas to enable activities.
