D Annunzio The Redemption Passage to the Woods

Gabriele d'Annunzio, the soldier poet at the Rescue

Gabriele d'Annunzio, poet, playwright, politician and fighter in the First World War, was born in Pescara on March 12, 1863.

The interventionist campaign in May 1915, his military actions on the Isonzo front, the expedition to Fiume and above all the Carta del Carnaro have linked the Poet to the history of the Adriatic frontier. The publishing house Passaggio al Bosco has recently published THE REVOLT. Writings and speeches for Italians in the trenches, edited by Guido Cabrele, a collection of war orations held by Gabriele d'Annunzio between November 1917 and May 1918.

This incredible series of interventions – ignored for too long – represent an unprecedented historical and poetic contribution, embodying the daring spirit that distinguished the Poet of Italy and the hundreds of thousands of heroes who died in the trenches of the Great War.

From the sincere encouragement to the infantrymen on the front line to the speeches given before the “boys of ’99”: everything in these pages exudes love of country and iron will, contempt for danger and faith in Victory. Words carved in marble, which act as a perennial echo to the memory of our fallen: a journey into the mysticism of sacrifice and honor, where life and death take on a higher and deeper meaning, in connection with what transcends us and does not pass.
