Between October and November, 383 Venetian fourth-grade children will move to the Teatro La Fenice to learn to sing the Ode to Joy, in both Italian and Slovenian, which expresses a message of peace and brotherhood among all people and which has been the official anthem of the European Union since 1985. In Sala Rossi, with the guidance of expert teachers from Fenice Education, the rhythmic and melodic structures of the final movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, composed in 1823 and conducted by Beethoven himself for the first time exactly 200 years ago, will be explored in depth. The composer believed that music was the best means to share the principles of freedom, unity and love for the human race.
At the end of the training workshops, each class will have the task of producing a video in which the children will sing the hymn to joy according to their own original creativity. This will be followed by the social vote that will be expressed through participatory voting on Facebook. Subsequently, a qualitative jury will identify the winning class of the competition that in May 2025 will perform with the Fenice orchestra at the Teatro Verdi in Gorizia for the European Capital of Culture. The same path will be carried out in Slovenia to select a school that will join the Fenice and the Venetian school together with the children of the Italian and Slovenian minorities.
