The Days in Wagna (1915-1918)
The days in Wagna in the chronicle of the “Lagerzeitung” – Dani u Wagni prema pisanju lista “Lagerzeitung”, by Josip Vretenar and David Orlović, for this dramatic story of the Great War has found an outlet in the pages of volume number 42 of the Series of Proceedings of the Historical Research Centre of Rovinj.
We can say that this volume, through the journalistic accounts of the years 1915-1918 spent by Istrians in the internment camps of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, represents an important testimony to a complex and dramatic event that involved and therefore saw part of the Istrian population, that of lower Istria, as protagonists. This was not only the result of special strategic-military measures but also an attitude of further mistrust by the competent Austro-Hungarian authorities towards the Italian component of the aforementioned area following the signing of the London Pact and Italy's declaration of war.
