A total of 51 authors participated in the XNUMXrd Art and Culture Competition in the various categories, including six for the "Adelia Biasiol" Award dedicated to young people.

The pandemic has spared no one and due to the unfavorable situation of recent times, the Italian Union, namely the “Culture and Art” Sector and its head Marianna Jelicich Buić, has also sent a press release regarding the “Istria Nobilissima” competition. The document ensures that despite the emergency caused by the pandemic that has heavily affected the performance of all activities, and thus also the LIII edition of the “Istria Nobilissima” Art and Culture Competition, this year's results are announced with pleasure. We thank the participants for their patience and understanding, as well as the Judging Committees, meeting for the first time online, for their work. In order to protect everyone's health, this year's award ceremony will not take place.

Poetry Awards…
In the Literature Category – “Osvaldo Ramous” Award, Italian Poetry Section, the First Prize was awarded to Giacomo Scotti for the anthology “Il piano e il canto” “for the sensitivity extended through the poetry of life, well pulsated in the lyrical aspect”. The Second Prize was awarded to Alessandro Salvi for the collection “Elusive malie” “for the poetry characterized by a dictation that migrates to magic through simplicity”. For the Poetry Section in one of the dialects of the Italian National Community, the First Prize goes to Tiziana Dabović for the collection “Corde” (Corde) “for the variety of tempos, the rhythmic scansion of the dictation and the style that adheres to the computational data”. The Second Prize was awarded to Alessio Giuricin for “Aeîcu e altri screîti”… (Haiku and other writings…) “for the interesting poetic attempt not frequent in the dialect”. The Commission also awarded an Honorable Mention to Romina Floris for “Parole de ancoi” (Words of today).

…and for prose
For the Italian Prose Section, the First Prize went to Rosanna Bubola for “Sotto il moquette”, “a story between the historical and the psychological with passages in dialect and a notable wealth of inventiveness”. The Second Prize went to the story “Io (non) amo me stessa” by Martina Scalia “for the intimate prose capable of probing the depths of the psyche”. An Honorable Mention went to Mario Simonovich for the text “La macchia sulla tovaglia”.

Essay Section
For the Humanistic or Scientific Essays Section, the First Prize goes to Libero Benussi for the “Bibliography of works in Rovinj dialect”, “for the richness and usefulness of the scientific system and for the documentation proposed”. Second Prize instead goes to Agata Tomšič for the essay “For a new political-aesthetic theatre” (Ten years of ErosAntEros through four dichotomies) “for the ability to tell a path of theatrical research”.

Category Theatre and Visual Arts
In the Theater Category – “Raniero Brumini” Award, Second Prize was awarded to Giuseppe Nicodemo for the theatrical text “Fiume's X-mas” “for the contamination of the language and the effectiveness of the dramatic rendering”.

For the Visual Arts Category – “Romolo Venucci” Award, in the Painting, Sculpture, Graphics, Digital Art and Video Section, Bruno Paladin won the First Prize for the silkscreen portfolio “L'essenza” “for the coherent and focused work with respect to the themes of the competition which on the one hand represents the parts of the torpedo, as an invention and production of Fiume of the time, symbol of modernity and the industriousness of the industry; on the other hand it is connected to the heroic moment of silkscreen printing of those years”.
The Second Prize was awarded to Tea Paškov Vukojević for the work “Connection” “for the artist’s ability to summarize in one work decades of development of contemporary art, condensing classicism with the modernism of our era. The technical aspect is not secondary, denoting a balance of empty and full spaces from which emerges a reworking of the landscape reconstructed through successive geometries”. An honorable mention instead went to Demi Boscia for her “Stampo libero di Fiume”, a work in which “the Commission grasped the centrality of the theme in full harmony with the Romolo Venucci prize. History, landscape, reinterpretation of an event characterize the work. A POP vision of a tragic event in which the artist places himself as an observer, rereading it almost in an ironic way: the threatening daggers contrast with the masked violence of today”.

In the Photography Section, the First Prize went to Jerko Gudac for the portfolio “Fiume-tunnel 1-6” “for adhering to a tragic and extremely fragile contemporary moment. Although it is from 2017, the photographer takes us back to a condition repeated in times of danger, threats and wars related to the territory, but at the same time in the colors projected in the vaults of the tunnel he offers us a glimmer of hope, joy and optimism”. The Second Prize was awarded to Bruno Bontempo for the collection “Portole in bottle”, “once again demonstrating the ability to adhere to the main theme of the Romolo Venucci Prize, photographing the landscape reflected in the glass containers, normally used for wine (demijohns) that take us back to a symbolic product, but strongly linked to the land and tradition of Istria”. Honorable mention for Luiza Štokovac for “Nameless faces – Volti senza nome”.

Cinema, television and music
In the Cinematographic Arts, Documentaries and Television Category, the First Prize was awarded to Claudia Raspolič for the documentary “Delamaris” “for a story of the past that conveys very current values, recounting forgotten places and spaces that manage to convey, through images, the story of an experience that is as distant as it is engaging”.

In the Music Category – “Luigi Dallapiccola” Award, Instrumental, Vocal or Choral Performance Section, the First Prize was awarded to Larisa Rojnić “for her strong musical personality that emerges through a careful choice of repertoire approached with brilliant technique”. The Second Prize went to Ivan Graziani “for having approached the cornerstones of the violin repertoire, demonstrating great technical and instrumental solidity”. Honorable mention to Anamarija Lovrečić and Đeni Dekleva Radaković.

Citizens residing abroad
In the Category Citizens resident in other countries, of Istrian, Istrian-Kvarner and Dalmatian origin certified by a specific document, Section Narrative prose and poetry, also in dialect, on themes that concern the common Istrian, Istrian-Kvarner and Dalmatian world, in its broadest cultural, human and historical meaning, the First prize was awarded to Doriana Segnan for the work “Finché luce d'amor nel mondo splenderà”, “for the effective narrative tension of the poetic dictation”. The Second prize goes to Debora Grbac and the work “10 febbraio” “for the grace with which the sense of sweetness is marked”.

Journalism Award
The “Paolo Lettis” Journalism Award (annual award) for the best service, commentary, article and other journalistic genre, radio or television broadcast, or for a series of these, published in CNI newspapers, on radio or television in 2020, of particular interest for the same and for the social and professional affirmation of the category, was awarded to Dario Saftich.

Numerous works in competition
A total of 2020 authors participated in the 51 “Istria Nobilissima” Art and Culture Competition in the various categories, 6 of which for the “Adelia Biasiol” Award dedicated to young people.

For the Literature Category – “Osvaldo Ramous” Award, a total of 19 works were received, divided into sections as follows: Poetry in Italian: four works; two for the youth award, poetry in one of the dialects of the Italian National Community: three works, prose in Italian: six works; one work for the youth award; prose in one of the dialects of the Italian National Community – no works received, essays on humanistic or scientific subjects: three works. For the Theatre Category – “Raniero Brumini” Award, one theatrical text was received. For the Visual Arts Category – “Romolo Venucci” Award, 15 authors participated, divided into sections as follows: Painting, sculpture, graphics, digital art and video: six authors Design, applied arts, illustration: four authors Photography: five authors. For the Cinematographic, documentary and television art category, four films were received.

In the Music Category – “Luigi Dallapiccola” Award, one work was received (Youth Award) in the Composition section, while in the Instrumental, Vocal or Choral Performance section, five musicians (one duo and three soloists) and two performers participated for the Youth Award. In the Citizens Resident in Other Countries Category, of Istrian, Istrian-Kvarner and Dalmatian origin certified by a specific document, three authors participated. For the “Paolo Lettis” Journalism Award (annual award), only one nomination was received.

Judging commissions
The judging commissions were composed as follows: Literature, Theatre and Citizens resident in other countries, of Istrian, Istrian-Kvarner and Dalmatian origin: Rina Brumini, Marisa Slanina, Nives Zudič Antonič (UI), Fabio Finotti, Fabio Polidori and Lucio Cristante (UPT). Visual Arts Category: Lorella Limoncin Toth, Rino Gropuzzo (UI), Marco Puntin, Francesco Vecchiet (UPT). Cinematographic, documentary and television art category: Matija Debeljuh (UI) and Chiara Valenti Omero (UPT). Music Category: Leonardo Klemenc (UI) Massimo Belli (UPT). Journalism Award: Lionella Pauzin Acquavita (UI) and Furio Baldassi (UPT). The organizers took the opportunity to remind that the new Competition Notice for the LIV edition of “Istria Nobilissima” has been published.
