The goal: to bring justice to history, to reveal pieces of truth hidden for decades by the left, to vindicate the martyrdom of Italians massacred for the "guilt" of being Italian. A parliamentary commission of inquiry to shed light on the foibe, the crimes committed by Marshal Tito and his executioners, has been officially requested by the Federation of Exiles in a letter sent recently to the Secretary of the Chamber of Deputies' Foreign Affairs Committee, Vito Comencini, as explained in an article in Il Giornale . The occasion is the anniversary, February 10, of the Day of Remembrance of the Exodus and the Foibe.

Specifically, the proposed law of popular initiative refers to one of the most brutal massacres, "the massacre of Vergarolla and the crimes committed on the eastern border". The text recalls that the "Republic was born with a deep wound in the provinces of Trieste, Gorizia, Pola, Fiume and Zara.

Tito's occupation marked mournful pages for the Italian community and was marked by massacres such as that of Vergarolla: «On 18 August 1946 in Pola, a city still formally Italian, an attack caused a massacre with a number of deaths that, depending on the different sources, oscillates between 70 and 110 units to which must be added a hundred wounded among the bathers who were attending a sports event in Vergarolla – we read in the proposal – It was the first massacre in the history of republican Italy, with an impressive number of victims and comparable to the much more well-known massacres of the Years of Lead».

Hence the Federation of Exiles' hope that all political forces will support the request for a commission of inquiry, as Vice President Davide Rossi, who represents a large portion of the 250 Istrians, Fiume, and Dalmatians forced to flee under the violence of the communist Tito, explained to Il Giornale . But the left in Parliament is already ready to build barricades.
