The President of the Senate Larussa at the National Monument of the Basovizza Foiba
The President of the Senate of the Republic Ignazio Larussa reached Trieste today (Thursday, February 9). Welcomed by the mayor Roberto Dipiazza and the prefect Pietro Signoriello in Basovizza, President La Russa laid a laurel wreath and knelt on the National Monument of the Foiba of Basovizza, paying homage and honoring the victims of the foibe, in the presence of a picket of the 2nd Piedmont Cavalry.
The brief ceremony was also attended by the Hon. Nicole Matteoni, the regional councilor Fabio Scoccimarro, the vice president of the Regional Council Francesco Russo, the regional councilor Claudio Giacomelli, the municipal councilor Maurizio De Blasio, the president of the City Council Francesco di Paola Panteca, the police commissioner Pietro Ostuni, the president of the Committee for the Martyrs of the Foibe and of the National League Paolo Sardos Albertini, the vicar general of the diocese Pier Emilio Salvadè, representatives of the combatant and armed forces associations and of the world of the Exodus.
At the end, accompanied by Mayor Dipiazza and President Paolo Sardos Albertini, the President of the Senate Ignazio La Russa visited the Documentation Center of the Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian Exodus and the events of the Eastern Border and signed the book of honor of the Documentation Center of the Basovizza Foiba, leaving the following dedication: "My visit on behalf of the entire Senate of the Republic now also wants to be an act of dutiful homage, on my knees, to those who innocently lost their lives in the Titoist foibe". Mayor Roberto Dipiazza then delivered to President Ignazio La Russa the plaque with the official coat of arms of the City of Trieste.
