The President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor will visit the Foiba di Basovizza National Monument together with the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Matarella on 13 July.

This news was welcomed with great satisfaction by the President of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia Renzo Codarin: «The visit of the two presidents to the Foiba of Basovizza on the same day in which the centenary of the fire at the Hotel Balkan will be commemorated – states Codarin – represents, through two highly symbolic places, the mutual recognition of the suffering that struck the lands of the eastern Adriatic in the first half of the last century».

"On the occasion of the Concert of the Three Presidents held in Trieste on 13 July 2010 - the national president of the ANVGD finally recalls - the heads of state of Italy, Slovenia and Croatia, after paying homage to the former Balkans, went to the monument that commemorates the exodus of 350.000 Istrians, Fiume and Dalmatians fleeing the climate of terror with which the communist regime of Josip Broz "Tito" was being established. Ten years later, a new significant step forward has been made in the reconstruction of the history of these tormented provinces in respect of the memories and mourning experienced by each national community"
