The mayor of Trieste Dipiazza met the Fiume exiles
"Trieste, the moral capital of the Exodus, is and will always be close to the Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian people who paid and suffered the tragedies of the 900th century on the eastern border. Let's continue to work together to promote the good and growth of our communities". This was said by Mayor Roberto Dipiazza who, in the blue living room of the municipio, met on the afternoon of Friday 27 October the president of AFIM (Association of Italians from Fiume in the World) Franco Papetti. Also present at the cordial meeting, which allowed to address and deepen aspects related to Italian culture in Fiume and Istria, were the vice president of AFIM Andor Brakus, the Hon. Maurizio Tremul, the president of the Commission of the Municipality of Fiume for the Italian minority Mauro Graziani, the director of the Voice of River, Rosanna Turcinovich and the president of the Trieste City Council, Francesco di Paola Panteca,
Thanking Mayor Dipiazza for the welcome, President Papetti recalled the strong and historic ties between Trieste and Rijeka, underlining the value of “a cultural and intellectual return”, capable of looking to the future and to new generations. Words of appreciation and confirmation for a common commitment to operate in this perspective came from Hon. Tremul, Vice President Brakus and President Graziani. An exchange of gifts concluded the significant meeting in the town hall.
Following this, still in the afternoon, President Franco Papetti spoke at the IRCI headquarters in Trieste at the presentation of the volume “Fiume al Lavoro” by Massimo Superina, a 400-page volume that photographs all the commercial activities in the streets of Fiume between the end of the 1946th century and up to 60 (the beginning of the mass exodus). In the next few days, President Papetti will be in Fiume for the XNUMXth Gathering of Fiumani.
