The 70th National Dalmatian Gathering begins in Pescara
We are on the eve of the annual events organized by the Association of Italian Dalmatians in the World - Free Municipality of Zara in Exile which will take place in Pescara on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October 2024 at the Hotel Regent: the 70th National Gathering of Dalmatians, the 29th Meeting with Dalmatian Culture and the awarding of the 28th "Niccolò Tommaseo" Prize.
We highlight some particularly significant moments from the two-day program that we report below.
The 29th Meeting with Dalmatian Culture will take place on Saturday 5th from 9:30 to 11:30, curated by Franco Luxardo according to this schedule:
1 – Greeting Adriana IVANOV DANIELI – Councilor for Culture of ADIM-LCZE.
2 - Christina SCUDERI – University of Graz: Theatres in Dalmatia (1861-1918)
3 - Enrico FUSELLI - Rome: Borders, Smugglers and Financiers in Restoration Dalmatia (published in the 47th Volume “Acts and Memoirs” of the Dalmatian Society of National History of Venice)
4 - Francesca PIVIROTTO – Rovigo: The Marcovichs of Perasto in the Notes of the Private Archive of Giuseppe Gelcich (published in the 47th Volume “Acts and Memoirs” of the Dalmatian Society of National History of Venice)
5 - Walter DE BERNARDINIS – Giulianova: The life and works of Prof. Antonio De Micheli from Sebenico, Dalmatian poet who lived and taught in Abruzzo and is buried in Giulianova.
Other recently published works on Dalmatian subjects will then be presented, including:
POLITEO Julia and SARTI Francesca – “Bitter Sea”
A book for young elementary school readers, which also deals with the theme of the Exodus of our people from their homeland.
Francesca FAVARO – “Around Dalmatian and Triestine things”
With an introduction by Giorgio Baroni and the participation of the IRCI, the work in some way completes the many studies published on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the death of Niccolò Tommaseo.
OSTO Giulio – Claudia BALDIN – Patrizia PARADISI – “Tommaseo on the Euganean Hills”
With a preface by Piero Luxardo, the memory and testimony of Tommaseo's presence in Torreglia and Arquà Petrarca.
SIGOVINI Aldo – Istrians and Dalmatians at Lepanto with Saint Mark, 7 October 1571, the day of Saint Justina (Journal of historical studies of the Venetian regional noble association, year XV, no. 15)
The Dalmatian galleys were: The Christ resurrected with a flag of Veglia, commanded by Lodovico Cicuta; Saint Zuanne of Arbe, superintendent Giovanni de Dominis, St. Nicholas with the crown of Cherso-Ossero, above Colane (Nicolò) Drasa, The Woman of Trogir, above Alvise Cippico, San Girolamo of Lesina with Giovanni Balzi as superintendent, Saint Zorzi on horseback from Sebenico, superintendent Cristoforo Lucich, Saint Tryphon of Cattaro, above Girolamo Bisanti; the Zadar area, the Dalmatian city Jadra, commanded by Pietro Bortolazzi, had been captured two months earlier, off the Albanian coast together with another Venetian galley, during an exploratory mission.
The General Assembly of Dalmatians will take place on Sunday 6 October, during which the Lectio Magistralis of Prof. Boško Knežič, professor at the Department of Italian Studies at the University of Zadar, will take place.
President of the Zara Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society: his speech will celebrate the 140th anniversary
of the death of Niccolò Tommaseo.
The will then be assigned 28th “Niccolò Tommaseo” Award: it will be the Prof. Egidio Ivetic (University of Padua) to obtain the Tommaseo Prize 2024: a significant recognition for the great historian of the Mediterranean and the Adriatic, who has also studied aspects related to Dalmatia.
