«Istria Nobilissima», here is the Competition Announcement

The Executive Board of the Italian Union has approved the Competition Announcement for the 5th edition of the “Istria Nobilissima” Art and Culture Competition.

The Award, as every year, aims to promote and affirm the artistic and cultural creativity of the Italian National Community of Croatia and Slovenia and to spread it in the territory of its historical settlement and in that of its Mother Nation.

The competition is divided into the Category “Literature”, named after Osvaldo Ramous, divided into the sections: Poetry in Italian, Poetry in one of the dialects of the Italian National Community, Prose in Italian, Prose in one of the dialects of the Italian National Community and Essays on humanistic or scientific subjects; in the Category “Theater”, named after Raniero Brumini, for theatrical texts; in the Category “Visual Arts”, named after Romolo Venucci and divided into the sections Painting, sculpture, graphics, digital art and video, Design, applied arts, illustration and Photography; in the Category “Cinema art, documentaries and television”; in the Category “Music”, named after Luigi Dallapiccola and divided into the sections Composition (choir and chamber music) and Instrumental, vocal or choral performance; as well as in the Category “Citizens resident in other countries, of Istrian, Istrian-Kvarner and Dalmatian origin” certified by a specific document and which includes the section of Narrative prose and poetry, also in dialect, on themes that concern the common Istrian, Istrian-Kvarner and Dalmatian world, in its broadest cultural, human and historical meaning.

Paolo Lettis Journalism Award

As part of the “Istria Nobilissima” competition, the competition for the “Paolo Lettis” Journalism Award is also published, for the best achievement in the journalistic sector of the Italian National Community, in Croatia and Slovenia. The award, which expires annually, is given for the best service, commentary, article and other journalistic genre, radio or television broadcast, or for a series of these, published in newspapers, on the radio or on television of the Italian National Community in 2021, of particular interest and for the social and professional affirmation of the category. All journalists of the Italian National Community in Croatia and Slovenia can participate in the Competition. Proposals can be submitted by individual journalists, editorial staff, institutions and individual members of the Italian National Community (readers, radio and television viewers). The judging commission may also award a prize for overall professional activity that has contributed to the development and promotion of the Italian National Community.

Minors can also participate

Adult citizens of Italian nationality (or of Italian mother tongue and culture) who attach a certificate issued by the Italian Community of their place of residence, proving their registration as active members, may compete.

Italian citizens resident in any other country (with the exception of Croatia and Slovenia) of Istrian, Istrian-Kvarner and Dalmatian origin, certified by a specific document, may apply for category “F”.

Minor citizens may also compete, starting from a minimum of 12 years of age and up to 18 years of age not yet completed on the expiry date of the announcement, who will attach a certificate issued by the Italian Community of their place of residence, proving their registration as minor members. These participants compete in each Category for the “Adelia Biasiol” Award.

All communication via email

All works, with the exception of Category C “Visual Arts”, must be sent in digital format to the address culture@unione-italiana.hr no later than 23:59 PM on May 16, 2022. For works in written form, all the most recent digital text formats will be accepted, with Word and PDF being preferred. The document must contain the indication of the Category and the chosen Section at the top and must not contain any reference to the author's personal details. These personal details must be specified in the accompanying email together with the address, a telephone number and an email address (if different from the sender's). The email must also include the certificate of registration, as active members or minor members, to a Community of Italians. The works of Category C “Visual Arts” must reach the Italian Union, via delle Pile – Uljarska 1/IV, HR – 51000 Fiume-Rijeka, no later than 16 May 2022.
