The Book Fair Stall 2026 Cop

“La Bancarella” returns to the Turin International Book Fair

The National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia, together with the Multimedia Documentation Center of Julian, Istrian, Rijeka, and Dalmatian Culture, in collaboration with the Federation of Istrian, Rijeka, and Dalmatian Exile Associations, and coordinated by Engineer Mauro Runco, is once again organizing "La Bancarella. Eastern Adriatic Book Fair" as part of the Turin International Book Fair.

The XXXVIII edition of the prestigious book fair will be held at Lingotto Fiere from 14 to 18 May. Stall, which will bring the history, culture and future prospects of Adriatic Italianness to the forefront, will be hosted in the Oval Pavilion, Stand T106-U105, with a packed calendar of meetings and events organized by Dr. Francesca Traldi (Secretary General of FederEsuli).

As part of the long-standing collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Merit, the opening day will feature two events dedicated to the presentation of the portal "Atlas of Julian and Dalmatian Refugee Collection Centers," created by the Ferruccio Parri National Institute and the National Research Council; the "The Adriatic Frontier" app; and the national school network "The Day of Remembrance." This will be followed by a panel on the Vergarolla massacre with Professor Marco Cuzzi of the University of Milan; the presentation of film critic Alessandro Cuk's book "Cinema of the Adriatic Frontier 1945-2025,"; and a discussion of the work of the Università Popolare di Trieste in the Eastern Adriatic to preserve Italian cultural identity.

On Friday, May 15th, Professor Katja Hrobat Virloget of the University of Primorska will present the book "Exodus, the Silence of Those Who Remain." The theme of the exodus will also be a focus of the works of Fabio Tognoni, vice president of FederEsuli, author of "The Julian-Dalmatian Exodus and the Question of the Eastern Border," and Marino Micich of the Society of Fiumani Studies with "Fiume, Farewell! The Fiumana Epic from the Second World War to the Great Exodus." A broader reflection on the twentieth-century Adriatic border will finally emerge from the presentation of the book by Professor Davide Rossi of the University of Trieste, edited by Professor Chiara Cacciavillani of the University of Padua.

The third day will open with reflections on the exodus and Italian identity in the eastern Adriatic through "Fiume, Città nuvola," curated by the Association of Italians from Fiume in the World. This will be followed by a discussion on the collective volume "Identity Beyond Borders: Generations Compared for a New Adriatic Frontier," with the participation of Professor Davide Rossi, the mayor of Gorizia, Rodolfo Ziberna, and the director of Arena Massimo Mamoli. Also noteworthy is the roundtable discussion featuring regional councilors Claudia Morich for Liguria, Maurizio Marrone for Piedmont, and Mario Anzil for Friuli Venezia Giulia, who will discuss the meaning and importance of Remembrance Day in their respective regions.

On Sunday, May 17, the program will resume with the presentation of researcher Barbara Vinciguerra's essay "Women's Voices. The Feminine Magazine in Trieste in the 1920s." This will be followed by a panel discussion of legislative proposals presented by the Honorable Nicole Matteoni to broaden knowledge of the history of the eastern border. This will be followed by the presentation of the Exhibition of Dalmatian Exiles from Istria and Fiume (MEDIF), organized by FederEsuli at the Vittoriano, and a further meeting organized in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Merit dedicated to Voyages of Remembrance. The day will conclude with Professor Francesca Favaro and her "Poetic Portolan of Nineteenth-Century Dalmatia."

On the final day of the event, essayist Mauro Tonino's "The 40 Days of Terror" and "From the Seminary to the Gian Rinaldo Carli Gymnasium, Centuries of Education in Koper," curated by Kristjan Knez of the Carlo Combi Italian Center in Koper, will be presented.

Publications produced by the main Julian-Dalmatian exile associations will also be distributed at the stand, along with educational materials on the history of the Adriatic border, which have always been particularly popular with teachers and students.
