The number 500 coincides with the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, during which President Sergio Mattarella highlighted the failure of the citizens of Gorizia, Trieste, Istria, Fiume, and Zadar to vote on June 2, 1946, even though they had the right to do so. Among the many news items, ample space was also given to the celebrations of June 12, a civil anniversary commemorating the end of the Yugoslav occupation of Trieste, Gorizia, and (temporarily) Pula in 1945 after Forty Days of Terror.
