TV programming for Remembrance Day 2022
A tragic page in Italian history, a wounded and contested land, crushed by border tensions in an Italy on the edge of the Iron Curtain. Istria and Dalmatia between 1943 and 1947 became the scene of massacres, of lives sucked into the darkness of the foibe, the karst cavities that dot the territory of Venezia Giulia, a place from which thousands left fearing for their survival. Parliament has chosen February 10 as the Day of Remembrance, in memory of the victims of the foibe and the Julian-Dalmatian exiles, and Rai will dedicate broadcasts, in-depth reports and special programming on TV, radio and the web to this anniversary. All the newspapers, news and radio news, will be busy with reports on the ceremonies, interviews with still-living witnesses and reconstructions of the historical facts. Until February 10, the commercial created specifically for the Day of Remembrance will also be scheduled on all networks.
Rai1 will address the topic in his broadcasts: “UnoMattina”, “Oggi è un altro giorno” and “Porta a Porta” and will then return to the subject on February 12 with “UnoMattina in famiglia”.

Rainews24 will produce a special broadcast at 9.00 on February 10, with guests in the studio Giuseppina Mellace, author of the book “A great forgotten tragedy, the true story of the Foibe” and the historian Franco Cardini, with live links from Trieste and Pola and an interview with Simone Cristicchi who dedicated the show “Magazzino 18” to the Julian-Dalmatian exodus.
La Tgr will follow the events that will be held in the various regions and the commitment of the Tgr Friuli Venezia Giulia and of Tgr Emilia Romagna which will interview witnesses and relatives of those who lived through the exodus and the period of fear and murder that caused approximately five thousand human lives to sink into the foibe.
Rai History will dedicate various appointments during February 10 to the deepening of the anniversary with “The day and the history” and the episodes on the theme of “Past and Present”: “The Julian-Dalmatian drama from the Foibe to the exodus” at 8.50, “Fiume and the purge of Tito” at 14.30, “Voices from the abyss – the Julian-Dalmatian drama between war and post-war” at 20.30, “Foibe, the eternal abandonment” at 23.10 and “Foibe, a violence without borders” at 1.10. At 21.10 “The Time of Remembrance. The foibe and the Istrian-Julian-Dalmatian exodus”, to tell of places like Basovizza or Vines, which became the scene of shootings and atrocities, and of those places where after a long and painful journey the exiles rebuilt their lives amid economic difficulties and looks of distrust.
The events of a painful, long, sometimes silent exodus of Italians from Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia forced to leave their lands and homes without any certainty, pursued and in some cases massacred by Tito's army. It is told - on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance - "The Time of Remembrance. The foibe and the Istrian Julian Dalmatian exodus", broadcast Thursday 10 February at 21.10 pm on Rai Storia. Places such as Basovizza, Vines, Pisino, Tarnova become the places where thousands of Italians are shot and disappeared. Thus begins that journey, that exodus which has a first tragic phase in the refugee camps established on the Italian peninsula to which will be added in the first post-war period the establishment of more than forty "neighborhoods" in the major Italian cities where a difficult reconstruction of the social fabric and the future of entire families will begin. The "Julian-Dalmatian" neighborhood of Rome thus becomes a place where the memory of what happened builds, through the presence of the museum "La Casa del Ricordo", a new bridge of dialogue and reconnection with the families and relatives who remained in Istria.
Su Premium Rai, in the second evening, the fiction “Il cuore nel pozzo” will be broadcast, with Beppe Fiorello, Leo Gullotta and Anna Liskova, while Rai Scuola will propose the special “Storie di confine: Giorno del Ricordo”, at 17pm and 23.30pm and Rai Cultura will select period films, testimonies, voices of intellectuals.
Also on RaiPlay content will be highlighted to tell and explore the dramatic events of those years: films, fiction, programs and videos from archives. Among the films highlighted “Red land – Rosso Istria”, on the tragic story of the young Norma Cossetto.
Radio3, finally, with “Radio3 Suite” on February 10th it will broadcast a themed show and on Sunday February 13th it will broadcast the Concert from the Cappella Paolina del Quirinale dedicated to the Day of Remembrance with songs by Gino Paoli, Sergio Endrigo and Gianluca Podio.
