Rai for Remembrance Day 2026

On the occasion of Remembrance Day—in memory of the victims of the Foibe massacres and the Julian-Dalmatian exodus—Rai is offering dedicated TV, radio, and digital programming on Tuesday, February 10. On Rai 1, at 10:00 a.m., Rai Parlamento will celebrate Remembrance Day in the Chamber of Deputies, in the presence of the President of the Republic. At 8:30 p.m., Abdon Pamich, race walker, former Italian Olympic champion, and exile from Rijeka, will be a guest of Bruno Vespa on "5 Minuti," while at 9:30 p.m., his story is the focus of Alessandro Casale's TV movie "The Walker – The True Story of Abdon Pamich," which explores sporting memory and collective identity. At 11:25 p.m., an in-depth segment will also be featured on "Porta a Porta."

On Rai 3, the anniversary is among the themes of “Agorà,” broadcast at 8:00 a.m., while at 1:30 p.m. on “Past and Present,” Paolo Mieli addresses the Julian-Dalmatian drama with Professor Gloria Nemec.

Extensive news coverage is provided by Rai's news programs and RaiNews.it. Specifically, RaiNews24 dedicates space to Remembrance Day with features on the news and on Mattina 24, Pomeriggio 24, and Sera 24, featuring in-depth reports and guests, and with a special dedicated to the victims of the Foibe massacres, hosted from Trieste, with live broadcasts from Rome and guests in the studio and live broadcasts.

Furthermore, from February 10th to 12th, RAI is programming the institutional campaign, curated by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, “The Train of Remembrance”.

Rai Movie, Tuesday 10 February at 23.35pm, offers “Red Land – Rosso Istria” by Maximiliano Hernando Bruno, with Maximiliano Hernando Bruno, Franco Nero, Geraldine Chaplin, Sandra Ceccarelli.

For Rai Cultura, Remembrance Day spans all of Rai Storia's programming. Specifically, premiering at 9:15 pm, the special "Olimpia in Esilio" recounts the tragedy of the Julian-Dalmatian exodus, which involved great sports champions who continued to compete for Italy in the decades that followed. Drawing parallels with some of the most significant historical events in Istria, Fiume, and Dalmatia, from Italian unification to the present day, such as the Vergarolla massacre and the 1946 Giro d'Italia, this narrative retraces some of the most beautiful and iconic stories of Julian-Dalmatian athletes.

The program for Remembrance Day begins after midnight, with subsequent reruns, with "The Day and History," which commemorates its establishment in 2005, while the rest of the schedule features specials and in-depth programs that revisit the post-war period, the tragedy of the foibe, and the exodus from Istria and Dalmatia throughout the day. This will be discussed in particular in “Past and Present” with Paolo Mieli (8.45, 14.15, 17.00 and 20.30) and “The Time of Remembrance. The Foibe and the Istrian-Julian-Dalmatian Exodus” (15.00 and also at 19.15 on Rai 5) “Italy of the Republic – The Disputed Border” (16.00) “The Journey of the Train of Remembrance” (18.00) “February 1947: Winners and Losers” (18.30) and “Route 230°, Return to the Land of the Fathers”, “The Julian-Dalmatian Odyssey. From the Foibe to the Exodus”.

The Rai Cultura portal also offers a special that captures the spirit in which the commemoration was established: "To preserve and renew the memory of the tragedy of the Italians and all the victims of the foibe, of the exodus from their lands of the Istrians, Fiume and Dalmatians in the post-World War II period and of the more complex situation of the eastern border."

RaiPlay brings together content available on the platform in dedicated sections, including films, series, and documentaries. Films include: "The Marciatore" by Alessandro Casale; "The Girl with the Suitcase" by Gianluca Mazzella; "The Rose of Istria" by Tiziana Aristarco; "Red Land – Rosso Istria" by Maximiliano Hernando Bruno.
