The solidarity of the exiles

The National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia has joined theappeal launched by the daily newspaper “Il Giornale” by donating 5.000 Euros as part of the fundraising for the new hospital in Milan.
The National President of ANVGD Cav. Renzo Codarin declared: “The donation is for Milan, which like other cities is paying an unparalleled price to the Coronavirus. Many of our Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian exile brothers and their descendants live there, who were welcomed in the dark times of history”.

Donatella Schürzel, National Vice President of ANVGD and President of the Provincial Committee of Rome, has also launched a solidarity initiative: “In these days of great pain and fragility, faced with the enormous effort made throughout Italy by doctors, healthcare workers, Civil Protection – said Schürzel – and by the many, many men and women who are risking their lives for the salvation of our Community, we thought of “donating” a little help to the Spallanzani Hospital in Rome which is working in an exemplary manner against time to tackle the Corona virus”.

The executive of the Roman committee has therefore decided to make available what will be collected by the end of this week possibly (given the urgency of the situation) or even what will arrive later for the purpose of acquiring the aforementioned health supplies. Part of what is collected will also be allocated, according to the donors' indications, to the field hospital built by the Alpine troops in Bergamo and to the Spedali Civili in Brescia.

"Let's not forget - added the ANVGD director - that these two cities with the surrounding areas are paying an unparalleled price and many of our exiled brothers and descendants who live there today, were welcomed there in the worst moments of our history. Let's make them feel that we are united, close and that our world of exiles, which has suffered so much, is not just official activities behind an acronym, but a true and fraternal world from the Alps to Sicily and is capable of experiencing a Latin and dignified "pietas". There are lives and stories of people in these realities, who could not even be close to their loved ones in the final moments and had to let them "go" alone, watching from a distance those wagons that tore our hearts out!"
