The solidarity of the February 10 Committee with Ukrainian refugees
Ukraine, MODAVI and February 10 Committee: “Refugees should not become exiles. Ensure Ukrainian territorial integrity”
The volunteers of MODAVI Onlus, Movement of Italian Volunteer Associations, and of the 10th February Committee, are returning from a humanitarian mission that started on 24th March, whose stages touched the borders of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Volunteers from the two Italian organizations distributed 12 tons of basic necessities, including food and medicine, and visited several collection and detention centers hosting people fleeing the war in Ukraine.
“The material, collected thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the Italians and the associations of our network, was distributed to the reception centers in Romania and Moldova and also delivered to Ukraine, in the border cities that welcome those fleeing the bombings and the advance of the Russian army, especially women, children and the elderly,” explains Mario Pozzi, national president of MODAVI.
The mobile column of volunteers visited Iasi and the city of Sighetu Marmatia, on the border with Ukraine, a first reception camp, to bring comfort and hope to those who have had to abandon their homes and their land. "The 10th February Committee could not fail to express its solidarity with the Ukrainian refugees because, dealing with exodus, we know well what it means to abandon one's homes. We hope that refugees do not become exiles and may they return to their homes and their homeland in peace again." These are the words of Emanuele Merlino, National President of the February 10th Committee which focuses on ensuring that the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the citizenship rights of the population are preserved. “This first mission – concludes Pozzi of MODAVI – is only the beginning of a new season of cooperation. Contributing to solving critical issues in Europe and abroad means working for peace and stability for everyone, including Italy”.
