“The Istrian Trilogy in Franco Giraldi’s Cinema” at the Casa del Ricordo
Friday 5 November at 17:00 at the House of Remembrance (Via di San Teodoro, 72 – Rome) the provincial committee of Rome of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia organizes the presentation of the book by Alessandro Cuk (National Vice President of Anvgd and film critic) “The Istrian Trilogy in Franco Giraldi's Cinema” (Alcione, Venice 2021).
This book, also presented at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, focuses on three films by the recently deceased filmmaker from Gorizia, taken from stories set in Istria, of which some excerpts will be screened: The red rose (1973), from a novel by Pier Antonio Quarantotti Gambini, which will follow A year of school (1977), from the story of the same name by Giani Stuparich, and finally, The frontier (1996) based on a book by Frank Vegliani and starring, among others, Raoul Bova and Omero Antonutti. These are three films linked by the theme of the frontier, the frontier seen by Giraldi, relating to the eastern border that has its central nucleus in Trieste and then unravels towards Istria and Dalmatia. Some updates will also be reported regarding the initiatives undertaken by the Anvgd on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the actress from Polesano Alida valli.
Introduced by Donatella Schürzel (President of Anvgd Rome and National Deputy Vice President), speakers include Olivia La Pegna (film producer), Diego Zandel (journalist and literary critic) and Alessandro Cuk (author of the book).
Free access until all seats are taken, with social distancing in compliance with anti-Covid regulations; mask and Green Pass (also obtainable with a negative swab) mandatory.
