Nereo Rocco Lenski

Trieste coach Nereo Rocco at an Anvgd conference

A great football coach, the subject of countless anecdotes and still regarded as one of the masters of catenaccio, Nereo Rocco represents a piece of history for Trieste, the city where he was born in 1912, and for all the clubs where he pursued his coaching career, which began in the Julian capital and continued in Turin, Florence, and especially Milan, where he played for AC Milan, becoming the most successful coach in AC Milan's history.

This is why, as part of the "Milan is Memory" initiatives, the Milan Provincial Committee of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia is dedicating a conference to Nereo Rocco on Wednesday, June 14, at 18:00 pm in the Pirelli Hall of the Regional Council of Lombardy (via Fabio Filzi, 22 – Milan).

The event will open with institutional greetings from Federico Romani (President of the Regional Council of Lombardy), Renzo Codarin (National President of Anvgd), Marco Riva (President of Coni Lombardia), Roberto Dipiazza (Mayor of Trieste in remote connection) and Marco Contardi (President of Asi Lombardia). Lorenzo Salimbeni (responsible for communication of Anvgd) will then provide a historical overview of Italy in the era in which “el Paròn” became the protagonist; this will be followed by speeches from his sons Tito and Bruno Rocco.

There will then be testimonies from José Altafini (former AC Milan footballer), Bruno Pizzul (journalist and commentator), and Viviana Facchinetti (director of L'Arena di Pola , remotely), followed by a speech by Giovanni Cobolli Gigli (former Juventus President, "of Istrian blood"). Also participating will be Domenico Beccaria (President of the Grande Torino Museum), Giampaolo Muliari (Director of the Grande Torino Museum), Alberto Cerruti (columnist for La Gazzetta dello Sport ), and Gabriele Moroni (journalist for Il Giorno ).

Luigi La Rocca, historian of Milan, will moderate the Conference, which enjoys the patronage of the Lombardy Regional Committee of the CONI, the Municipality of Milan and the Federation of Associations of Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian Exiles.

The new documentary by filmmaker Simone Pontini, Ricordando Nereo Rocco, will also be screened, featuring interviews by Emma Bozzi.

The work will be streamed live on the ANVGD Milan Committee YouTube channel.

Confirmation of participation is necessary and mandatory at the number 3335796311
