Pula Arena August 2026

The solemnity of the anniversary of August 18, 1946-2026

This month's front page summarizes in its title and iconographic synopsis the great commemorative event held in Pula in memory of the Vergarolla massacre which, as has been emphasized several times, was and remains the first and most horrific massacre suffered by the Italian Republic, which at the time had been founded just over two months earlier.

On the eightieth anniversary of that day when a cowardly hand anonymously signed an untrue horror, decimating families who only asked to start living again after the dramatic five-year war, safeguarding a thousand-year-old culture where "even the stones speak Italian," an intense and participatory program was held in Pula.

Along with current events, widely covered in real time by newspapers and live TV, our monthly magazine also features in-depth articles with a sentimental twist, if we may use the term. They combine memories and experiences, chronicling the stages of a painful journey that ultimately led to a peaceful and mutually beneficial collaboration.

This is a special issue, particularly timed to coincide with the busy schedule of events taking place in Pula, although the traditional columns are also included, albeit in a somewhat more modest form.

Happy reading and see you next time!

Your director,
Viviana Facchinetti
