Pula Arena in November 2024

Dear AIPI-LCPE Odv Members,

Dear Friends Readers of The Pula Arena,

Respect: 8 letters to read, less than two seconds to pronounce them. Yet of significant content, regardless of the reference: the person, his experience, the history, the truth and therefore knowledge; through the will to discover and understand the reality in which we exist, regardless of interests and preconceptions. Events and anniversaries, news and current affairs, which we also report in this issue and which, as is now customary, we have summarized in 3 cover images: The President of the Republic and National Unity, the Treaty of Osimo, The Race of Remembrance.

The summary:

  • National Unity and Armed Forces Day – Message from the President of the Republic
  • National interests and rights of exiles trampled by the Treaty of Osimo 49 years ago – by Lorenzo Salimbeni
  • From 3 to 5 December regional and macro-area seminar in the north – by AnnaMaria Crasti; Week of Italian cuisine in the world; RAI film ready for the Day of Remembrance – last take filmed
  • Freedom Day – 35 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall – by Lorenzo Salimbeni; L.72/2001 refinanced to support exile associations; Memorial plaque for the MO and tribute to the fallen of Nassiriya
  • AnnaMaria Crasti awarded Paladin of Memory; Fly Dove at the cinema
  • The Corsa del Ricordo is back in Novara; Success at the IRCI of the 1954 anniversary exhibition
  • Applause for “A Sea of Umbrellas”; Venetian Students and the Heritage of the Serenissima; Applauded Show in Memory of Mayor Bartoli
  • History from the commentaries of Msgr. Tommasini edited by AnnaMaria Crasti: the ANVGD online conferences in Milan in December
  • The Julian-Dalmatian Exodus Told Interactively
  • The memory is young: the stones speak – from the Comprehensive Institute of Città Sant'Angelo
  • The Little Song of Our Dialect – from the Stories of Roberto Stanich
  • Events, letters, memories, emotions
  • Marina Parladori's itineraries – on the wings, in the wind
  • The columns dedicated to cooking, surnames, memories experienced and rediscovered
  • News and gleanings from everywhere
  • Memories and affectionate thoughts for those who remain close to us in our memories
  • Unforgettably: Mario Carravetta from Pola to Trieste for the Birth of Dialysis – by Ugo Gerini; Fiume – Fertilia – Toronto: The Curious Story of a Beautiful Friendship

As is well known and has been repeatedly stated, ours are the pages of a monthly magazine, objectively unable to compete with the immediacy of the daily newspaper. As far as possible, we try to respect the chronology of events, but almost always, when closing the issue, we find ourselves faced with breaking news. This time too, we had to summarize them in the wake of the summary.

In the list of winners of the Barcola Award, this year the name of Monsignor Ettore Malnati has been meritoriously included. The award ceremony, conceived in 1993 by Franco Giorgini and now in its 31st edition, took place in Trieste in the Palazzo della Regione FVG, in the presence of authorities and institutional representatives, as well as the many friends who in 5 decades have had the opportunity to appreciate the work of the priest.

We talk about the martyrdom of Zadar in November 1943 on page 22 of this issue, but just before going to press, the news arrived that the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy has included in the calendar of philatelic issues, scheduled for next year, the release on November 2, 2025 of stamps celebrating the destruction of the city of Zadar.

Happy reading and see you next time!

Viviana Facchinetti
your director
