2022 Celebrations of St. Nazarius in Koper
The four-day event dedicated to the traditional celebrations of St. Nazarius, the patron saint of the city of Koper, will kick off with a concert by the musical duo Adriavox, composed of Marino Kranjac and Andrea Alessio.
Something more than just a patron saint. We are talking about Saint Nazarius, a Christian martyr who represents a true symbol for all Koper residents, who find an important part of their identity in his cult. For centuries, in fact, the saint has been remembered every June 19 with a procession that this year will also represent the pinnacle of the celebrations, which have finally returned to their normal regime after the pandemic.
There are many events that precede this moment, however. It begins with this evening's concert by the Adriavox group, in which the musical heritage of the territory will be enhanced; to continue tomorrow at 17 pm with the twenty-fourth briscola tournament for the San Nazario cup, which brings together young and old who will compete in this ancient card game.
On Saturday 18th, fishing enthusiasts will compete in a boat and underwater fishing competition, while in the morning at Muda there will be a lavender festival, whose scent will invade the city streets. In the evening, at the summer club of the Italian Community “Santorio Santorio” of Capodistria, members and friends will meet for the Sardelada 2022.
Finally, on Sunday at 10 a.m. the saint will be celebrated in the 10 a.m. mass, followed by a procession in the square. In the evening, the festivities will end with an organ concert that will also be held in the Koper Cathedral.
