“Venezia Giulia, Fiume, Dalmatia. The foibe, the exodus, the memory – Essays and documents”, edited by Amleto Ballarini, Giovanni Stelli, Marino Micich, Emiliano Loria, is now available to those interested in reading it also in digital format. The Association for the culture of Fiume, Istria and Dalmatia in Lazio offers the historiographical essay published in 2015 in pdf format. An excellent book for the seriousness of the research and the skills of the authors: 145 pages to read to understand what happened in Venezia Giulia after the Second World War, from the tragedy of September 8 to the communist Yugoslav occupation. And Istria, Fiume. Zara, the reasons for an exodus, the memories and stories of some refugees.
Published by the Association under the patronage of the Society of Fiuman Studies and the Lazio Region, the volume is the result of an exhaustive and precise documentary and testimonial research at the same time, of a lucid analysis of events and background, as well as of the comparison of different theses, with references to the various historiographical interpretations and authoritative critical positions.

 

The work contains essays by the aforementioned authors who address and study in a documented manner the massacres that occurred in Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia and the exodus of the Julian-Dalmatians. The Association for the culture of Fiume, Istria and Dalmatia in Lazio wanted to print this work to "contribute to making known the path of suffering experienced by an entire community - as reported on the back cover -, with great dignity and awareness, not to divide, but to rebuild the bridges of dialogue and civil coexistence between the peoples of the two Adriatic shores".

In the appendix, a selection of documents from the Historical Archive-Museum of Fiume, a bibliography on the memory of the exodus and some bio-bibliographical notes on the authors.

A volume to be read and kept for oneself and especially for young people, so that they may know and understand.
