Knighthood honor for Giuseppe Gioseffi, exiled from Rovigno

On Saturday 2 June, the Prefect of Verona, Dr. Salvatore Mulas, will present Giuseppe Gioseffi with the honor of Knight “of Merit of the Italian Republic” conferred upon him by the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella at the Auditorium of the Palazzo della Gran Guardia in Verona on the occasion of the 72nd Anniversary of the Foundation of the Italian Republic.

This honor was awarded in consideration of the tireless dissemination activity he carried out as an eyewitness to the tragedy of the foibe and the Julian-Dalmatian exodus and which he continues to carry out even today, compatibly with his now approaching 97 years.

This prestigious recognition honors not only the experience of an exile from Rovigno d'Istria and Honorary Councilor of the Provincial Committee of Verona of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia, but above all that of thousands of Italians who were victims of the ethnic cleansing carried out by Tito's militias and of the 350.000 Italians forced into exile by the unjust Peace Treaty of Paris of February 10, 1947, which assigned very Italian lands to Yugoslavia.
