On Wednesday, November 29, at 18:00 PM, the Minerva Bookshop (Via San Nicolò, 20 – Trieste) will host a presentation of the historical novel about the Foibe and the Julian-Dalmatian Exodus, "Rossa Terra" (L'Orto della Cultura, Udine 2013) by writer and cultural activist Mauro Tonino. The event is part of the 2017 edition of La Bancarella. Eastern Adriatic Book Fair , dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Peace Treaty of February 10, 1947, which so profoundly affected Italy's eastern borderlands. The event is organized by the Multimedia Documentation Center of Julian, Istrian, Rijeka, and Dalmatian Culture, in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste and the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia.

An elderly exile, Marino, decides with his grandson to embark on a sailing trip along the coasts of Istria. Nine days of sailing in the sea near his native land, the contiguity with the young Filippo thirsty for history and knowledge, will lead the grandfather to retrace images, places and ancient tragedies. The young man's obstinacy will lead him to reveal, through the eyes of him as a child projected into the war, and after a long time, "his own story", personal, but common to many fellow countrymen forced to abandon their land. The trip will allow Filippo to get to know Istria, to observe the vestiges, evidence of a refined and ancient culture, and through the words of his grandfather, to learn the origins of his family. Life on the boat, with its rhythms, the reciprocal roles, the vicissitudes of navigation, the juxtaposition between two generations, will engage grandfather and grandson in a close comparison that will animate the entire trip, and upon their return everything will no longer be as it was before.
