Razine and Tuccitto win the 10th edition of the Corsa del Ricordo
The traditional 10 km race organized by Asi (Italian Sports and Social Associations) with the support of the Provincial Committee of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia took place in the Giuliano-Dalmata district of Rome.
The Olympic walking champion and Fiume exile Abdon Pamich as an illustrious presence, the Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi at the start, over 700 participants, for a day that fully achieved the cultural and sporting objectives that aims to remember the tragedy of the Foibe and the Julian-Dalmatian exodus on the Sunday closest to February 10.
The emotion of the notes of the Mameli anthem that preceded the start; the Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi who, faithful to the promise made in the press conference, showed up punctually at the start wearing the bib number 10; over 700 athletes and amateurs who, between the competitive 10 km, non-competitive and walking race, honored the event. These were the ingredients that decreed the success of the XNUMXth Edition of the Corsa del Ricordo di Roma which took place, as is tradition, on the tried and tested route, of which GS Bancari Romani took care of the technical aspects, in the heart of the Giuliano-Dalmata neighborhood of Rome and the Military City of Cecchignola, and which once again turned the spotlight on the tragedy of the foibe and the Julian-Dalmatian exodus.
A day that fully responded to the sporting and cultural goals desired by Asi, the Sports Promotion Agency that has been organizing the event since 2014, strongly supported by the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia.
The race was also particularly interesting from a technical point of view, with the men's race featuring a duel between the two favourites on the eve of the event, the standard-bearer of the Marouan Army Razine and Mohamed Zerrad of Atletica Vomano, the 2021 Italian absolute champion of the 1500 m and recent winner of Corri per la Befana. The two announced protagonists showed up on the finish line almost side by side and it was Razine who placed the winning sprint, crossing the finish line first in 31:43. Zerrad came in at a close second, finishing with a time of 31:44. Third place for Matteo Carlo Perri (Atletica Purosangue) who came in 32:32.
Equally important is the name of the athlete who has entered her name in the women's roll of honor of the Corsa del Ricordo. Climbing to the top step of the podium was the multiple champion Alessia Tuccitto, of Caivano Runners, who completed the challenging course in 35:33. In second place was Beatrice Mallozzi of Lazio Atletica Leggera with a time of 36:03. Third place went to the athlete of Athetica Vaticana Sara Carnicelli who finished in 38:18.
Numerous athletes also took part in the non-competitive 3 km race, with Matteo Cerisola arriving first at the finish line in the men's race ahead of Emanuele Tocchi and Massimiliano Cadeo. In the women's race, first place went to Laura Renzo Paoli, with Loredana Grammalo and Clementina Uner also on the podium.
Particularly strong was the participation in the 6th Tokyo 1964 Trophy, reserved for race walkers, which decreed the victory of Filippo Antonio Capostagno, who covered the 3 kilometers of the race in 12:58, preceding Romano Mancini, second in 14:41 and Francesco Crudo, third in 15:32. In the women's race walk, Carla Anulli excelled with a time of 23:22.
Also at the start was Sara Vargetto, the young Roman athlete registered with the Vatican Athletics, who, encouraged by her father Paolo, wanted to be present, reaching the finish line amidst the applause of the large audience, and to whom the organizers wanted to dedicate a special recognition for the passion and dedication with which she has always participated in the road races of Rome.
Touching and emotional, like every year, the ceremony held at the end of the race in front of the stele dedicated to the exodus of the Julian-Dalmatian populations. On the notes of the Silence played by the trumpeter of the Bersaglieri, Donatella Schürzel, President of the Provincial Committee and National Vice President of ANVGD, and Marino Micich, director of the Historical Archive Museum of Fiume, representing the associations and in the presence of numerous first, second and third generation exiles, laid the commemorative wreath. The ceremony, which preceded the awarding of the athletes, took place in the presence of Minister Andrea Abodi, Claudio Barbaro, president of Asi, Roberto Tavani, delegate for sport of the Lazio Region (all of whom reached the finish line as athletes), Teresa Di Salvo, President of the IX Municipio, Fabio Martelli, President of Fidal Lazio, Riccardo Viola, President of Coni Lazio, Bruno Campanile, national vice president of Asi, Roberto Cipolletti, President of Asi Lazio, Andrea Roberti, President of Asi Roma, Sandro Giorgi, President of Asi Atletica Roma, and Alessandro Cochi, one of the historical promoters of the Corsa del Ricordo and former delegate for sport of Rome Capital.
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary, the organizers exhibited the historic shirts of the ten editions of the Corsa del Ricordo di Roma, among which those signed by Nino Benvenuti in the 2014 edition and by Abdon Pamich in the last edition stand out, two extraordinary protagonists of Italian sport who experienced first-hand the tragedy of the exodus of the Italian populations.
An announced success that was made possible by the commitment of Asi, the Associations of exiles that have always supported the event, in Rome as in the other cities where the event will take place in September, and by the active contribution of the Lazio Region, Rome Capital, IX Municipio, the Italian Army and Fidal that have allowed us to overcome every logistical and organizational difficulty that the event entails.
