Red land – Rosso Istria in a reduced version for schools
Thanks to the contribution of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia, Venice Film has produced the shortened version of the feature film “Red land – Rosso Istria” for schools. The Veneto Region, with its characteristic sensitivity in dealing with the events of the history of the eastern Italian border, has financed the distribution of the film in DVD format in the high schools of the area.
The initiatives proposed in schools and the meaning of the operation to enhance the historical memory of those events were presented on the occasion of the 2020 Day of Remembrance in Dolo, at the Cinema Italia, by the regional councilor for Education and Training Elena Donazzan, by the representative of the Veneto regional school office Roberto Gaudio and by the deputy vice president of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia Alessandro Cuk, at the end of the screening of the film “Red Land” for the students of the Dolo comprehensive institute and the Musatti institute, also present the director Maximiliano Hernando Bruno.
This initiative, which took place on Monday 10 February, was very successful: “The power of the images moved the young students present, there was not a fly in the room – underlined Gaudio – The hope is that this film can stimulate students from all the schools in the Veneto to a historical and critical analysis”.
“For the associations of Julian and Dalmatian exiles – he added Alessandro Cuk, representative of lA.NVGD – the relationship with the world of school is a priority. Introducing to the new generations a page of history that has been torn from history books for too long is fundamental. For us, collaboration with the world of school that finds support from local institutions, such as the Veneto Region, is important. We consider these initiatives and these teaching tools precious, because students can become aware of and understand the tragedy of the foibe and the exodus. This year too, after two years, we have re-proposed the competition open to schools of all levels in Veneto, which will conclude at the end of the year with the awards ceremony. Furthermore, we have already received over a hundred invitations from as many schools in Veneto to bring our testimony: in Veneto, we can say, this page of history is perhaps better known than elsewhere”.
