The Committee for the Awarding of Recognition to the Relatives of the Victims of the Foibe at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, established by Law No. 92 of March 30, 2004, establishing Remembrance Day, has resumed its activities, consistent with the innovations introduced by the Prime Ministerial Decree of December 19, 2025, particularly significant among which is the possibility for municipal administrations to take the initiative. This Committee is responsible for examining, including from a historical perspective, applications from the families and relatives of those killed or thrown into the Foibe, or recognized as missing, for the awarding of a plaque with the inscription "The Italian Republic remembers..." and the related diploma, pursuant to Article 3 of Law 92/2004. The Committee also examines, including historically, applications received from the Mayor of the birthplace of those killed in the Foibe attacks, or those who disappeared or were suppressed, as well as applications submitted by the historical and recognized associations of Istrian, Fiume, and Dalmatian exiles, and by the National League of Trieste if the birthplace is no longer within Italian territory. The Department for Administrative Coordination of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers examines the applications received and provides all further technical and administrative support to the Committee.
