“Route 230°. Return to the Land of the Fathers” from Barcolana to Rai Storia

Fertilia.org's projects were presented in Trieste during one of the most prestigious events in the Mediterranean, #Barcolana56 , a historic event that every year attracts sailing enthusiasts and the public from all over the world.

On October 10th, at the prestigious Yacht Club Adriaco, the Mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazza , Regional Councilor Pierpaolo Roberti , Vice President of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Francesco Russo, and Deputy Mayor of Koper, Mario Steffè , were present . Representatives of exile associations were also present: Renzo Codarin , President of Federesuli and the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia; Pamela Rabaccio of the Giuliani nel Mondo Association; Giorgio Tessarolo of the Association of Istrian Communities; and Diego Guerin of the National League of Trieste. The event also saw the participation of representatives of the world of culture and local institutions, who emphasized the importance of initiatives like this for preserving historical heritage through digitization.

During the presentations, director Igor Biddau introduced some clips from his film " Route 230 – Return to the Land of the Fathers ," describing it as a unique human and professional experience . The film retraces the symbolic journey of the Klizia vessel, which represents the link between exile communities and their history.

Giancarlo Rosa , coordinator of the digitization project, illustrated the value of shared memory and the importance of digital technologies in cultural preservation and promotion, underlining how digitization can strengthen the bond between generations and preserve Fertilia's historical heritage.

For this purpose, the "Bora" Digital Archive was created to collect and preserve the documentary heritage. Thanks to an intuitive interface, operators can easily manage and update the data, while APIs allow integration with other applications, making the data accessible through apps as well. The system offers authorized users structured access to information, facilitating the search for content such as videos, images, text, and 3D models.

Zent allows you to explore Fertilia from afar through 360° virtual tours . This experience immerses users in the city's landmarks, offering an immersive virtual journey that transcends geographical barriers and makes cultural heritage accessible everywhere.

Finally, " Memory Department: Fertilia Files " was presented, an augmented reality video game that combines history and science fiction. Players, in the role of Andrea Melis, a recruit in the Memory Department, explore the memories of Istrian and Dalmatian exiles. Using Apple's ARKit and Google's ARCore technology, the game allows interaction with the real environment, bringing the history of Fertilia to life and engaging for new generations.

Fertilia.org's projects are a concrete initiative to preserve the historical memory of the Foundation City and enhance its cultural heritage. These initiatives shed new light on Fertilia and make it accessible to new generations, allowing them to learn about its history and share its values.

On Friday, October 11, Mauro Manca presented his book " Rotta 230° Ritorno alla terra dei padri. Diario di bordo" (Panoramika, Alghero 2024) in the conference room of the Association of Istrian Communities. Meanwhile, at the stand set up by the Multimedia Documentation Center of Julian, Istrian, Rijeka, and Dalmatian culture in the busy Barcolana Village on the seafront, informational material was distributed in the days leading up to the Mediterranean's most popular regatta, and the people of Trieste learned more about Fertilia, the Sardinian city founded and where Julian-Dalmatian exiles settled, and about the " Ritorno alla terra dei padri" project , which is crucial for strengthening the bond between the new generations of the Exodus and the native Italian community of the eastern Adriatic.

A delegation of people from Fertilia also took part in the Trieste regatta aboard Victoria , thanks to the owner Salvo Taccini and the support of the Trieste Provincial Committee of the ANVGD and the CDM.

Rai Cultura, which collaborated on the making of the documentary film “Rotta 230° Ritorno alla terra dei padri” has finally announced that it will be broadcast by Rai Storia for the first time on Tuesday 22 October at 21pm (and will then be visible on the Rai Play platform).

Premiering at the 81st Venice International Film Festival , the film retraces, in reverse, the route taken in the spring of 1948 by 13 fishing boats carrying 53 families of exiles from Istria, Fiume, and Dalmatia. After being forced to abandon their homeland, after 20 days and 20 nights of sailing along the coasts of Italy, they reached Fertilia, a small, unfinished town near Alghero in Sardinia, where the seed of a new life sprouted. An encounter between a city without inhabitants and a community without a home.

The protagonist of the story is Giulio Morongiu himself, who, after a long journey aboard his boat, saw the city of Pula he abandoned as a child for the first time, sailing with a crew made up of his son Federico and Mauro Manca, founders of the Egean Ecomuseum ; Giuseppe Bellu; and Federica Picone, who played the inspiring mermaid who led him on his return to his homeland. The film was written by Mario Audino and Igor Biddau , and the narrator is Roberto Pedicini , one of Italy's finest voice actors, while Alina Person voiced the mermaid. The film's music was specially composed by Maestro Pinuccio Pirazzoli , with an exclusive performance by Isabella Adriani.
