Commemorations of the victims of Arsia
The Istrian-Venetian Cultural Circle “Istria”, in collaboration with the Trade Unions, the Interregional Trade Union Council, the Provincial Consulate of Trieste of the Federation of Masters of Labor and other local and regional entities, organizes a commemoration ceremony in memory of all the martyrs of labor and the victims of the disaster that occurred in the Istrian coal mines of Arsia on February 28, 1940. The Trieste daily newspaper “Il Piccolo” turns 140
On December 29, 1881, "Il Piccolo" appeared, an Italian-language daily newspaper from Trieste, which was still under the domination of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The newspaper, which owes its name to the smaller format in which it was printed compared to other newspapers of the time, immediately became the voice of the liberal-national ruling class of Trieste, speaking and cultured in Italy, repeatedly challenging the watchful Habsburg censorship by giving space to irredentist initiatives and issues.
