The Complexity of the Eastern Border History

With reference to the article “History rewritten in silence” by Simonetta Fiori in the Tuesday 6 July edition of “Repubblica”, the Federation of Associations of Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian Exiles would like to make some clarifications. First of all, it is painful to note that the history of the eastern border is always interpreted in the context of fascism and the political attack on the right, forgetting centuries of Italian presence, history, culture and tradition on the eastern Adriatic coast, as well as the adherence to the Risorgimento of native ruling classes and volunteers. It is necessary to distinguish the ideological and political reading that has...

Mattarella received the leaders of FederEsuli at the Quirinale

Extreme cordiality and renewed commitments to resolve the issues that are dear to the world of the Adriatic diaspora: this is how the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella welcomed this morning at the Quirinale a delegation of representatives of the Associations of Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian exiles led by the President of FederEsuli, Giuseppe de Vergottini. «A year after the day spent in Trieste by Mattarella together with the President of the Slovenian Republic Borut Pahor – explains de Vergottini – we have verified that there is great institutional sensitivity towards our still unresolved issues. Surely the President of the Republic has...

The President of the Federation of Associations of Istrian, Fiume and Dalmatian Exiles, Professor Giuseppe de Vergottini, held a frank and cordial conversation via teleconference with the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Speech by Prof. de Vergottini at the 2021 Remembrance Day ceremony

Speech by Professor Giuseppe de Vergottini, President of the Federation of Associations of Istrian, Fiume, and Dalmatian Exiles, at the 2021 Remembrance Day ceremony held at the Palazzo dei Gruppi Parlamentari (Rome) on Wednesday, February 10. Law No. 92 of March 30, 2004, in establishing Remembrance Day, confirmed the dramatic nature of the exodus of almost the entire Italian population of the Julian territories caused by the violence experienced after September 8, 1943, and at the end of the Second World War. Thus, the gap that had been created between the memory of the exiles and that of the entire nation was filled. We cannot fail to remember...

Speech by Prof. de Vergottini for the Day of Remembrance

Remembrance Day is not merely a commemoration of the victims of the massacres committed by Tito's communist partisans, but also an opportunity to reflect on the forgotten stories of so many Italians who experienced the exodus and its tragic consequences. The speech by Professor Giuseppe de Vergottini, President of the Federation of Istrian, Rijeka, and Dalmatian Exiles' Associations, recalls the civic significance of this anniversary, placing it in the present. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0eAM_qByco&t=2s
