This week Giuseppina "Mary" Nacinovich, a Fiume exile and mother of the popular showbiz personality Umberto Smaila, passed away. Active in the Provincial Committee of Verona of the National Association of Venezia Giulia Dalmazia, she was born on March 17, 1926. Due to the historical events of her city, she had a very eventful life: beautiful in her childhood, troubled later, but later recomposed with courage and energy. In 1948 she left Fiume and landed in the refugee camp of Lucca. In 1949 she moved to Verona, where her only son Umberto was born and where she taught for forty years with love and dedication.
