Pula Arena September 2025
There Was a Turning Point. The cover title and accompanying photographic synopsis for this issue of L'Arena di Pola are certainly not the introduction to a fairy tale, but the treatment of a painful page in history, our history above all, a compendium of facts and events endured by the Julian-Dalmatian people. September 15, 1947, Monday: at midnight the following day, the Treaty of Paris would come into force. 138 pages, concluding with the words: Done at Paris in the French, English, Russian, and Italian languages, this tenth day of February, nineteen hundred and forty-seven. February 10 – September 15, 1947, a watershed moment in history and in too many lives: that blink of an eye that brought...
Pula Arena August 2025
Dear Readers of L'Arena di Pola, Dear Members and Supporting Friends of AIPI - LCPE Odv, The Torn Curtain. Why this title to summarize this month's special pages of L'Arena di Pola, extensively dedicated to the anniversary of the terrorist attack that occurred 79 years ago in Vergarolla? Because, albeit very slowly and decidedly belatedly, it seems that somehow and somewhere the curtain has been torn that obtusely, almost hermetically, closed the stage of a tragedy that struck Italy. A chosen definition because it symbolizes the opening of a hidden reality, a veil that has long concealed something uncomfortable or painful. Once again, it is...
The 80th anniversary of the Pula Arena
With its July 2025 issue, L'Arena di Pola, the periodical of the Association of Italians of Pula and Istria - Free Municipality of Pula in Exile, celebrated its 80th anniversary. The newspaper was founded in the summer of 1945 as an Italian, patriotic, and democratic newspaper in Pula, then assigned to Zone A under Anglo-American military administration. It was designed to give voice to a city that wanted to reaffirm its Italian identity in view of the upcoming peace conference that would redefine Europe's borders. This historic milestone was the focus of the Trieste news program on August 9th on the television station Telequattro, which featured the newspaper's editor-in-chief, Viviana...
Pula Arena July 2025
JULY 29, 1945-2025 80 Years of the Pula Arena Dear Readers of the Pula Arena, Dear Members and Supporting Friends of AIPI/LCPE Odv, We have chosen to publish this issue on July 29th: it is the anniversary of the glorious founding of our Arena, which took place in Pula 80 years ago. It marks the beginning of a story that, we dare say, makes us proud, recalling some details on page 11. This anniversary, which concerns us closely, is included in this issue among the pages of important events and facts, current affairs and news, which we summarize in the summary: - The commemorative program of the...
Pula Arena June 2025
Dear Readers of L'Arena di Pola, dear members and friends supporting AIPI/LCPE Odv, 30 days of intense participation in the June calendar! ...to the point of giving rise to the title of our cover: TOGETHER. Together for the anniversary of the Italian Republic Day, together for the celebratory ceremony of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Trieste from Tito's occupation, together in the eagerly awaited and enthusiastically experienced 68th Meeting of the Exiles from Pola for which, although special, the space dedicated will have to continue in the next issue. The enthusiasm of the 4 days in Pola was so palpable that it determined, literally on request, the reopening of the terms...
Pula Arena February 2025
It has been a busy period, full of events and emotions, summarized in the photographic synopsis on the cover page and to which L'Arena di Pola, the monthly magazine of the Association of Italians of Pola and Istria – Free Municipality of Pola in Exile, has dedicated special pages: the Day of Remembrance, the Day of Memory and the inauguration of GO!25. In these opening lines we are pleased to connect the initiatives still underway to the beautiful wish forwarded to us by a friend: May the “maybe”s become “finally”. A wish, partially realized, that we can perhaps also combine with the heavy curtain finally raised on our history, thanks to the Day...
Pula Arena in November 2024
Dear AIPI-LCPE Odv Members, Dear Friends and Readers of L'Arena di Pola, Respect: 8 letters to read, less than two seconds to pronounce them. And yet of significant content, regardless of the reference: the person, his experience, history, truth and therefore knowledge; through the will to discover and understand the reality in which we exist, regardless of interests and preconceptions. Events and anniversaries, news and current affairs, which we also report in this issue and which, as is now customary, we have summarized in 3 cover images: The President of the Republic and National Unity, the Treaty of Osimo, The Race of Remembrance. The summary: ...
Pula Arena October 2024
To the Members of the Association of Italians of Pola and Istria - Free Municipality of Pola in Exile, to the friends readers of L'Arena di Pola Emotions values vibrations... ...because emotions create the strongest and most lasting memories, the experts say. Emotions rediscovered, that are renewed, sometimes inserted in the metamorphoses of life project paths, perhaps thought to be archived but that, at an almost imperceptible breath, happen to recompose themselves: vibrant, supported by the value of being connected to general life experiences, lived and shared. Many events of the month that we report on these pages; three are summarized in the cover images,...
Pula Arena September 2024
Dear AIPI/LCPE Odv Members, dear friends and readers of L'Arena di Pola, it is a source of great satisfaction, which rewards our commitment, the appreciation that, frequently, a little all of you renew towards our Arena, reiterating that they are "pages with a soul". And it is precisely by reconnecting to this beautiful expression that in this issue we report, among other things, of two very important September events that, having crossed, respected and honoured the past, have at the same time been able to turn a constructive eye to the future: the recent 67th meeting of the exiles from Pola and the four-day conference held in Fertilia. The common thread was the significant moments...
79 years of Pula Arena
Dear AIPI/LCPE Odv Members, dear readers of L'Arena, the title of the first page of this issue is a fitting tribute to the uninterrupted 79 years of activity of our L'Arena di Pola. It is also the reason why, in our now customary opening synopsis in images, we have included a miniature copy of that distant July 1945 paper. As per our editorial line, however, our communication confirms its range between history and future. And among the images of current events we have reported those relating to the social week held in Trieste, opened by the Head of State and concluded by Pope Bergoglio. To complete the iconographic triptych, the profile of the Amerigo...
