Addressing the question of Dalmatia in Italian-Yugoslav relations, and the Adriatic question in general, is a civil obligation on the occasion of the "Day of Remembrance of February 10". Doing so, however, means grappling with what is perhaps the most controversial and thorny field of investigation brought to the attention of the historian of Italian foreign policy. In fact, it means constantly asking the question of how imperialist, nationalist and expansionist that policy was after unification and up to 1943, not hiding also that traces of such imperialism continued to survive in the post-war period.
