The Return to the Land of the Fathers was presented at the Barcolana

The presentation of the Barcolana 29 took place in Trieste on Thursday 2023 June: what has now become the most popular regatta in the world reaches its 55th edition and will take place as usual on the second Sunday of October, but the collateral events will begin on 29 September. Among the events that have been announced is also the passage of Klizia, the boat set up by Mauro Manca (director of the Ecomuseo Egea di Fertilia and President of the Provincial Committee of Sassari-Fertilia of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia) for the journey/event Ritorno alla Terra dei Padri. This is an itinerary that will start on 30 July...

From Fertilia to Trieste in the name of the exiles from Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia

From Fertilia (Alghero) to Trieste by sea in the name of the exiles of Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia. An extraordinary journey, back in time, one of those capable of bringing back memories that have never been completely erased. It is the Egea project "Return to the Land of the Fathers": it represents the most concrete way possible to retrace the route traveled by 13 fishing boats with 53 families of exiles from Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia on board who reached the seaside village of Alghero after 20 days and 20 nights of sailing along the coasts of the peninsula. It was the spring of 1948 and for many of them, such as Giulio Marongiu, born in Pola in 1938 and never returned to his hometown, it was a...
Adriatic Trieste Fertilia Flag

The flag of Fertilia flies at the Adriatic of Trieste

“Honoring the flag of Fertilia means paying homage to the sacrifice, desperation and disorientation felt by all those people who were torn away from their roots and from the land where their ancestors were buried. I believe there is nothing more traumatic than being separated, not from the good of property, but from the homeland of one’s parents. An unbridgeable pain for those who have experienced it, but also for their children and their children’s children”. This was underlined, a few meters from the waves that bathe the Sartorio pier in Trieste, by the president of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Piero Mauro Zanin, guest at the presentation ceremony of the project “Aria di...
Egea Haffner Today And Yesterday

The Aegean Museum of Fertilia celebrates one year of existence

Egea Haffner, the protagonist of the famous photograph of the little girl with the suitcase that became the icon of the Julian Dalmatian exodus, thanks to the exhibition of her photo, visited yesterday on the occasion of the first anniversary of its foundation, the Museum of the Exodus of Fertilia, in Sardinia, which bears her name. A project in constant evolution that, starting from a museum pavilion called "Ex officine" then extends to the "Città di Fondazione di Fertilia" and its varied community, made up of women and men who arrived over the years from different places. In fact, in addition to the Sardinians, the settlers of the...

Fertilia and Trieste ever closer

We have undertaken an important journey to build a “Bridge” between Fertilia and Trieste and to “Reunite the Threads of our History” and we return enriched and surprised by the warm and affectionate welcome we have received. We first met Giuseppe Silvino, nephew of Don Francesco Dapiran, in Rovereto, with whom we shared the very strong emotions that the birth of the Egea Museum and the publication of the book Rotta 230° - Fertilia and its protagonists gave us. Then we spent a long time with Egea Haffner and Giovanni Tomazzoni. With the “Little Girl with a Suitcase”, to whom we dedicated the Museum, we retraced the stages of our work and...

The Egea project unites Sardinia and the eastern border

On the afternoon of Friday 9 October, the Mayor of Trieste met a delegation from the Egea association - a light on memory, which is carrying out an important project (www.ecomuseoegea.org) dedicated to the memory of the Julian-Dalmatian exodus in Sardinia and the foibe named after Egea Haffner, "the little girl with the suitcase" who has become one of the iconic images of the Exodus. The reception at the Town Hall in Piazza Unità d'Italia followed the one held last spring in Fertilia (Alghero) in honour of the same Roberto Dipiazza. On that occasion, the Mayor of Trieste had visited the town symbolising the Exodus...

The EGEA project in Fertilia

The Solomare Social Cooperative will present a project for the creation of a Museum on February 1st in Alghero, Sardinia, which, starting from the history of the Foundation City of Fertilia, will deal with the Julian Dalmatian Exodus following which an important community arrived in Sardinia that was the first to build and inhabit the town whose construction had been interrupted by the war. The Museum follows some guidelines including: - A light on memory An exhibition path in which to make known the history of the Julian Dalmatian Exiles. - Let's reunite the threads of our history The creation of a virtual census that collects names, cities, photographs,...
