Appointing a senator for life an Istrian exile who was a victim of the ethnic purge ordered by communist hatred and the ferocity of Marshal Tito. It has already been done for the survivor of another genocide like Liliana Segre, who escaped the Nazi concentration camps, it is not clear why it should not be done also for the martyrs of the other ruthless dictatorship that has devastated not only the last century, but that still today tortures and kills its opponents. The lucid mind of an extraordinary journalist and a great war correspondent like Toni Capuozzo proposed it during the conference on foibe and exiles from Fiume, Istria and Dalmatia organized in Milan by the Councilor for Culture of Municipio 2 Marzio Nava who puts on the table «Italiani due volte» by Dino Messina and «I testimuti» by Diego Zandel attached to Il Giornale, the two volumes published today after the many decades in which that tragedy was also thrown into the history books. Because the conviction of the speakers, including the president of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia Matteo Gherghetta, is that if on the one hand for the first time the Day of Remembrance has been celebrated with all the institutional dignity it deserves, never like this year has the demand for conferences grown if not deniers, at least revisionists on the genocide and ethnic cleansing carried out by Tito's communists and the Italian partisans. An acknowledgement that culminated in the speech of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella who finally said clearly that those massacres were not "a retaliation against the wrongs of fascism, as some historians have tried to insinuate", but rather the "fruit of a hatred that was at once ideological, ethnic and social". Finally the truth for those dead massacred because they were Italian and not because they were fascists. "I like facts more than words" Capuozzo cuts short on the words of Mattarella, telling a biography that intertwines years of life and family events with those tragic events. "Especially in these days we hear so much talk about refugees, well none of them has ever turned being an exile into a profession. And for none of them have I ever heard talk of the right to return to their homeland, as has been done and continues to be done for many other exiles". Hence the invitation to Mattarella to demonstrate the full recognition of that genocide by appointing an exiled senator for life. It was done for Segre, Napolitano did it for Mario Monti and Claudio Abbado, but also for Renzo Piano and the scientist Elena Cattaneo, it is difficult to explain why it should not be done with one of those martyrs, also etymologically witnesses of the barbarity that was (and still is) communism.
