Italian Community River Poster

A CD to learn the songs and dialect of Fiume

The month of September marks the beginning of the reopening, after the summer break, of the Italian Community of Fiume which will soon present the rich program already agreed. "Returning to the past season - Melita Sciucca, president of the CI, tells us -, I can state with full knowledge of the facts that it was nothing short of excellent and rewarding. There were so many events, presentations, shows, meetings, seminars, courses, workshops, cinema, collaborations, trips and much more, including some new ones, which will surely become regular events for our association. After two years of almost inactivity due to the pandemic, last year we got busy and our compatriots as well as the citizens of the majority had the opportunity to enjoy a rich and varied program".

So, this year will be no exception. “Yes, but everything is still being planned, so much so that the dates have not been agreed upon, but we are working on it. Suffice it to say that for September we already have four events of great interest and they are only a small part of what will be presented to the public. Our artistic sections are also already 'taking flight' and are ready to resume activities”, he said.

As illustrated by President Sciucca, the first date that will interest compatriots is the return of percussionist Antonio Ceravolo, principal timpanist of the orchestra of the Croatian national theater “Ivan de Zajc” who, supported by professor Kiki Dellisanti, professor at the Department of Percussion Instruments of the Conservatory of Music “Benedetto Marcello” of Venice, will once again bring to the Salone delle Feste of Palazzo Modello the event entitled “DrummINCircle, a rhythmic event open to all in which a group of people gather to create music and everyone can participate, people of any age. The participants arrange themselves in a circle and with the help of a professional musician, create improvised harmonized rhythms, using drums and percussion.

The highlight of the month will certainly be September 20th when the CD of the latest edition of the festival “Canzonette fiumane” with all the melodies presented and published by the record company “Scardona” from Zagreb will be officially presented. During the meeting, as Melita Sciucca said, the request to include the Fiuman dialect in the intangible heritage of Croatia will be publicly sent.

On September 23, the Community will host the Coro San Giovanni Lupatoto (province of Verona) which will reciprocate the outings of the CI choirs in the Veneto town. The polyphonic choir, founded in 2008, will offer a cross-section of their rich repertoire that ranges from the greatest operatic compositions by Mozart, Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Puccini, Mascagni, Morricone, Zimmer, etc. to the sacred music of Bach, Salieri, Adam, Mendelssohn, Perosi, Händel.

Furthermore, on September 30th the presentation of the book “Viola Pervinca” by the writer Silvia Favaretto is scheduled, which narrates the events of a Venetian peasant family between the two world wars.

As for other services, the secretariat and the library are available to the parties from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 12 pm or by appointment by email (info@cifiume.com). The complete library catalogue can be consulted via the link https://knjiznica_circolo.zaki.com.hr.
