Friday in Bologna the presentation of a celebratory edition of the volume "Missoni. The great Italian fashion"

Fashion is art, in its highest and most celebrated forms. This is the thought that lives in the edition “Missoni – La grande moda italiana”, dedicated to Ottavio Missoni on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of his birth, which fell last February. An anniversary full of tributes, homages from the media all over the world, to underline the imprint that the creative who left Ragusa in Dalmatia, where he was born in 1921, and passed away in 2013, left on costume. Because the Missonis – always in the plural: where there was Ottavio (Tai, for friends) there was also his wife Rosita – have truly made the history of fashion, tracing the language and style of an elegance that, as the curators of this very refined volume published by the Bologna-based Scripta Maneant affirm, has become artistic expression, since those early Fifties in which Ottavio and Rosita Missoni began their creative journey.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Missoni Archive and Foundation, the work, which will be presented in Bologna on Friday 3 December, at the Salaborsa Library, retraces the history of the fashion house through images, from a small workshop (the Missonis began with a knitwear workshop in their home in Gallarate, continuing the business started by Ottavio in Trieste) to one of the most international and well-known pillars of Made in Italy, today carried forward by the heirs. From the inventions and peculiar characteristics to the motifs that have made the brand famous, colour, stripes, zigzags and put-togethers, we move on to the fundamental stages that have led the maison to global recognition, made famous starting from the early 2012s also by the imaginative collections for the home and by important collaborations with the world of cinema and theatre. A success story, we recall in passing, celebrated a few years ago also in Slovenia, on the occasion of Maribor European Capital of Culture XNUMX, through a traveling exhibition, “Ottavio Missoni. The genius of color”, coordinated by the Italian Embassy in Ljubljana and organized by the Italian Union.
