A new Museum in Rijeka, in step with the European integration process, opens today, November 14, 2020.

 

The Society of Fiumani Studies, after the international conference on the centenary of the Free State of Fiume in which it took part via teleconference last Thursday, recalls that in 2020 we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of a unique cultural collaboration and dialogue, aimed at strengthening the historical and cultural collaboration with the land of origin. The Society of Fiumani Studies was born in Fiume in 1923. In 1960, after the exodus, it was reconstituted in Rome. In 1963, it established the Historical Archive Museum of Fiume (recognized by law 92/2004 establishing the Day of Remembrance together with the Museum of Istrian, Fiume, Dalmatian Civilization of the IRCI of Trieste).

From 1990 to today, thirty years have passed since the Society of Fiumani Studies began the cultural dialogue with the Italian community of Rijeka and the Kvarner municipality in agreement with the Association of Fiumani Italians in the World – LCFE.

Many cultural results promoted and conceived by the Society of Fiumani Studies have obtained the support and adhesion especially of the People's University of Trieste, of the Italian Union, of FederEsuli and of the Italian Government with contributions from L. 72/2001, of the Municipality of Fiume/Rijeka, of the Italian Community of Fiume. Very significant results have thus been achieved on the banks of the Carnaro in these thirty years.

We hope to continue this work in the future with the city together with our Consulate General of Italy in Rijeka, the institutions of our national minority in Croatia, AFIM-LCFE and other cultural and scientific institutions present in Rijeka and in Italy.

The twenty-year collaboration between the New Museum of Rijeka, whose inauguration is included among the events of Rijeka European Capital of Culture 2020, and theHistorical Museum Archive of Fiume in Rome will certainly continue in the future if regularly supported by our institutions.

We thank the City of Rijeka and the Museum for the invitation and warmly welcome this initiative, which we will not be able to participate in due to the COVID emergency.
