It is said that Jason and the Argonauts fleeing from the Black Sea with the Golden Fleece reached the Upper Adriatic... So says the legend. A legend that director Sibilla Damiani chose to open her reportage on Istria. A travel documentary broadcast on Sunday 16 January on none other than Rai 3, the third television channel of Rai, the company that provides the Italian public radio and television service.

The reportage was broadcast by the well-known presenter Camila Raznovich during “Alle falde del Kilimangiaro”, the famous program dedicated to travel, with documentaries, testimonies, insights into the habits and customs of the world and the climate and political changes that affect the life of individual countries. A program followed every weekend by over one and a half million viewers.

Returning to the reportage dedicated to Istria, director Sibilla Damiani emphasized the history and legends of Istria. Naturally, the author of the documentary could not help but also tell about the natural wonders of the coast and the unexplored and little-known hinterland. The reportage is the result of a study trip to Istria by the director, who took advantage of an invitation from the Croatian Tourist Board, whose representative Viviana Vukelić (head of the Representative Office in Italy) recalled that Italians are particularly fond of Croatian tourist destinations and that they mostly choose Istria and Kvarner for their trips.

“In 2021, according to data from the National Tourist Board, Italian tourists totaled over 2,2 overnight stays, 900 thousand of which in Istria,” noted Viviana Vukelić, more than confident that the reportage aired on Rai3 can only have positive repercussions on Istrian and Croatian tourism. Retracing the journey of the legendary Argonauts, the documentary reveals the lush nature of Istria, the historical and architectural beauties, the rich cultural heritage of Pula, the wonders of the Brijuni Islands National Park, the maritime traditions of small Fažana and the charm of Rovinj, which many consider to be the most romantic town in the entire Mediterranean.
